I think that most of us can agree that we actually *like* Jacob a lot as a character and squadmate. We just don't like the romance, because it makes our PC act out of character, and gives us no alternatives.

I do not know about that, I had a problem with him popping in on every recruitment and giving his opinion as if for some reason he thought I would care what he had to say.

I went in to ME2 thinking Miranda would be my most hated character, her reveal video made her out to be a really bossy ****, and I did not care for the amount of time and recourses they put in to trying to make her look like Yvonne that could be better spent elsewhere.  In the end she got on my nerves a bit with the I'm so perfect routine, but she was tolerable.

Jacob just rubbed me the wrong way, his character is a complete contradiciton of himself and his belief's, he is basicly a mercenary that hates mercenaries, doesn't agree with what Cerberus does, but works for them and does what he is told, probably lacking the full information to even determine if the job he is doing is even remotely justified.  The list goes on.

yes. i agree. jacob was unwanted in the cutscenes. they forced him into the briefing room like they "tried" to force him into Femsheps pants (although, honestly they tried to force Femshep into "his" pants.....oh gawd...i'm gonna puke again.... Posted Image.......)

anyway, despite him being a salvageable character in many regards they just threw the guy around in ALL the wrong ways. his everpresence in the briefing room really really REALLY made me appreciate the line from shepard, "THANK YOU. both of you!....for your opinions".

maybe it was just me and my frustration, but i took it as "ENOUGH! of both of you two always hanging around trying to be part of my decisions, get lost already" which is what i wanted to say to them both frankly. the whole "miranda and jacob shoved down shepards throat" was just retarded.

Thats just what I don't like about ME2 romances, its so dang easy to romance someone, really the only way to avoid it is to just not talk to them. I remember the first time I was playing ME1 trying to romance Kaidan and I actually screwed it up becasue I said something that ticked him off. Damn he was a challenge to romance, so hard to read his intentions. So I went with Liara becasue she was easier. Still not as easy as these though.

I agree, I still fondly remember Bastilla from KOTOR. I do not mind the easy, saves me the trouble of save scumming. But... it is one thing to be easy and another that Shepard is ****teasing Jacob like a stripper in heat, even before you hit Horizan! Most romance happens after the Loyalty mission. You get maybe a flirty line to Miranda. Jacob, you are like half way into the Romance before you finish Omega. All via some of the most ****ty dialogue I ever heard. It is disrespectful to Shepard, heck it is disrespectful to Jacob...

Dunno if this has been mentioned yet, but did anyone else feel like some of the convo choices for maleSheps were bordering on homoerotic due to essentially being cut and paste from the femShep come-ons, such as commenting on how good he looks...

The very first line MaleShep says to him to start a conversation made me question my Shepard to begin with...
So... yeah... avoiding Jacob pretty much most of the time. The only time I think talking with him is interesting is on his loyalty mission and right before Freedom's Progress...

But hey... I mostly fail to 'rescue' him when he gets picked off by giant seeker swarms...

Are you kidding?  Every time I try to play through ME1 without romancing anyone Ash rapes me on the way to Ilos.  Seriously, I told Ash to be professional current playthrough and she still wants to molest me, I'm thinking about reporting her for harassment. :crying:

Yeah, I'm starting to wonder if the person who wrote Jacob has a thing for him, just wants to share the love whether we want it or not. <_<  There's Bromance, and then there's 'Dude lets get under the covers and get freaky!  Don't worry we're bros, it don't mean anything, don't mind that thing pressing against you'-mance.

Another femshep player who totally avoided Jacob (except for his loyalty mission) due to Shep's unreasonably flirty dialogue with him.

Umm... Bioware? My Sheperd would not talk to Jacob that way, as she's completely uninterested in men.

My interest is piqued. Are there any videos or at least transcripts of femshep's dialogue with Jacob?

Fem Shep does act like she's going to pounce on Jacob and rip his shirt off whenever she talks to him, which is incredibly awkward and wrong when it's like their second conversation ever. And unlike suddenly and openly suggesting sex to a spiky, clawed, pointy-toothed alien, or replying to Thane's story about his dead wife with "I want you, Thane" (both very wrong, but optional), it's absolutely forced and you cannot choose her not to act like that. No wonder so many femShep players avoid talking to Jacob, the poor guy ended up so under-appreciated merely because femShep's such a sexual predator

I just stopped talking to him because of that. I love my femShep, and Jacob's an okay guy, but flirty voice constantly? No.

Me too.  On my first playthrough, after initially flinching back from that horrid sleaziness, I discovered that it's possible to persist, avoid the options that are flirty "on paper" (and not just in vocal delivery), and eventually get to a nice, romantically-neutral friendship with Jacob.  But, honestly, I'm not bothering on any subsequent playthroughs.  The voice just breaks my character-immersion so much.  And yes: it's not Jacob's fault.  But I still don't want my Shep to act like that, so if I miss out on his dialogue, so be it.

I just interpreted it as FemShep being all awkward and professionally friendly. She's just so bad at making conversation that nobody notices her real intentions. Which are making Jacob her best bro ever. Luckily, Jacob never catches on to her flirtatious intonation, so this plan is oh-so-very bulletproof.

Denial is awesome! *thumbs up*

I didn't so much mind it until I recruited Tali; the fact he's so willing to cheerfully tell a Quarian that the ship has an AI just blew my mind. Before that point he seemed a lot like Alistair and I could accept the molester tone FemShep took on because he was a decent character, but the fact he was that stupid... ugh

Same here...My Femshep's response was so out of character to the way I role-played her in ME I just couldn't talk to the guy. And for those staying faithful to their LI's it was absolutely ridiculous. It's like whoever directed Hale to do the lines like that wasn't even giving anyone the option of staying loyal. But staying loyal was what my Femshep would do so sadly I couldn't even give Jacob a chance...even as a friend because I couldn't get past her greeting.
