Why didn't we just destroy the Omega 4 Relay?

How does the fact Shepard goes through the relay render the indestructibility (although I imagine relays are hardly indestructible, and honestly believing basic mass accelerators would do significant damage, even the main guns of dreadnoughts Cerberus doesn't have could hardly dent it). Remember that the species of present in the universe of Mass Effect were not the first. Don't you think after the Reapers did this to some other species, they wouldn't of attempted to destroy the Relays? Assuming that, look where that got them. And remember all these different cycles of organic species have all shared roughly the same degree of technology, as that's exactly what the Reapers wanted to happen by leaving tech out for organics so they'd develop technology along the lines they wanted them to.

freeze the relay to 0K and then tap it with a hammer should do the trick...well maybe not with a hammer...
