Ok, so here's my idea. What if for mass effect three you could only recruit a certain number of crew members but all of them were available for recruitment? For example, say you like tali but not garrus, miranda, jack, thane, ashley, liara, grunt, samara, and mordin (everybody loves mordin;)) but didn't like kaiden, jacob, and every other squadmember that has been introduced. You could choose to recruit the characters you like and they just so handily fit into 9 slots. That way, bioware creates an adaptive environment where everyone's experience of the game is unique to their preferences. You keep the people you like and you send the people you don't of into the galaxy to kill stuff. Now I recognize that that would require making individual encounters for every squad member you choose to exclude but they've already done that with the ash/kaiden/liara/legion characters and they could do it fairly cookie-cutter ( with unique dialog but similar settings) and I wouldn't be offended. But this wouldn't be a thread without discussion and I'm interested in your thoughts.
So, what do you think? and feel free to add your own adaptations and revisions.

sounds like a good idea. i'd probably end up saving the galaxy with tali, liara, wrex, grunt, legion, garrus and samara. i think if bioware were to do another squad builder for ME3 it would limit story options. i'd like to see you choose who you want from 1 and 2 and complete the whole game with them.
oh and to completely contradict myself a recruitable rachni!

sounds like somebody's having a case of The Mondays.
something like that could work, but if they're going to record all the dialogue and code sequences for all potentials i don't see why they wouldn't still be available as crew. really, as long as 3/4 of the potential squadmates don't get written out to avoid import difficulties i'll be satisfied.

I say let us recruit everyone who survived our imports.
Liara, Ashley/Kaiden,Wrex, Grunt, Jacob, Miranda, Mordin, Samara/Morinth, SuZe, Tali, Thane, Zaeed and Kasumi.
Ok, so not Wrex. He's off doing something useful in attempting to unify the Krogan race. Could come in handy. Can strike the DLC guys too, they're just bit players. Anywho, that leaves us with exactly 10 squadmates for those of us who kept everyone alive during the suicide mission.
Even if you're one of those masochistic types and tried to kill the majority of your squad, if you have an importable save (i.e. Shep lives) then you have at least 2 squadmates alive, so would have 4 squadmates at the start of ME3.
I think another four completely new squadmates would round out the roster in ME3. Ideally, they would be alignment/choice specific .. for example, if you saved the Rachni, saved the council, reprogrammed the Heretics and destroyed the Collector base, then you might get a new Rachni, Turian Spectre, Geth and Alliance squadmate.
Alternatively, if you killed the Rachni, sacrificed the council, destroyed the Heretics and handed the base over to Cerberus, you might get a new Batarian, Human Spectre, Quarian and Cerberus squadmate.
I'd really love to see our past actions shape our squads and lead to different game experiences. If Renegade/Paragon are basically identical, the only reason for me to play a Renegade in ME3 (I always gravitate to Paragon) is to see how much of jerk Shepard is this time .. and I can do that on Youtube.
I know it's a lot of work to have two different sets of squadmates, and I know it's a lot to ask for Bioware to diverge the game experience so that it's different depending on alignment .. but dammit, this is the finality of the Mass Effect Trilogy, and it's gotta be epic.
Besides, it's not like they need to remake the game engine/combat mechanics like they did after ME1 .. should leave more time for indulging mah increasingly diva-like demands.

This would be interesting, I totally forgot about the Rachni. Well, not totally but when I think of them it's in terms of another fleet and another army, not as a recruitable element. Great comment, food for thought.

i'd either go max paragon on their ass, use my massive charisma on them and convince them
or
renegade them and push them out of a window
