I just completed my walkthrough on Insanity and I'm about to start my 4th walkthrough. Since I want to experience again a frenzied combat action (I played twice as Soldier and one time as Infiltrator) I think I'll play a Vanguard.

Shockwave seems a very powerful asset and I wonder what advanced version is better.

 Heavy Shockwave or Improved Shockwave?

Should I prefer an increase in Impact Force or in Impact radius?

For the records I plan to play on Normal or Veteran. I unlocked every achievement. Veteran was my standard difficulty on Mass Effect, so I think it will be my standard in Mass Effect 2.

Thank You for your help.

Neither =P Heavy Charge, Champion, your choice of ammo powers.

Also, play on Insanity =D

Increased impact force sounds more fun.

But then again shockwave is still pretty stong so more radius would increase its effectiveness a but more i think.

But I would still go with more impact for the fun of it.

QFT, but he isn't playing on insanity..

Heavy shockwave is better if you ask me.  Hit unshielded enemies with that, and they become bowling pins Posted Image

On veteran heavy shockwave definately. As said above unshielded enemies are sent flying in all directions.

Is the "all enemies have defenses" ONLY an issue on Insanity? Because that's 99% of the difficulty on Insanity, in my opinion. Take that away, and I really don't see what the problem(s) are. If this was insanity, I'd never recommend Shockwave. But if there's not many enemies with defenses, then I'd say Heavy Shockwave for sure.

Never tried Heavy Shockwave, so can't vouch for it. Improved Shockwave was really useful on Veteran for clearing groups of Husks and knocking people off relatively narrow bridges. I appreciated it especially because I don't like pausing to use the power wheel, so having the wider radius meant I could just fling it wherever I felt like.

Improved Shockwave, all the way. Having tried both Heavy and Improved, the latter is far better suited for crowd control and Husk killing. Heavy Shockwave may have more impact force, but you'll want that increased effect radius. Trust me on this.

All enemies have defenses on Hardcore as well, but on Insanity they hit harder, are more aggressive, aim better, and seem to be a little angry with you too.

About Shockwave...  it's a choice between definitely hitting harder or potentially hitting more enemies.  Either way, having a Wii controller for shockwave and doing the bowling motion would have been awesome.  Why isn't Mass Effect for the Wii?

Heavy Shockwave sends everything but heavily shielded enemies flying and already has a pretty good spread, Improved may affect more but it doesn't always grant an instant kill except against husks.

No but it throws them off the map. Really, though, you'll find yourself in tighter corridors and cat walks for Improved to be a better option -- most enemies will move out of the way. Still, you can always reset...

For a player skill I would go with Heavy, for Jack I go with Improved.

Yeah... Improved Shockwave is the way to go.  You'll need it on missions with lots of Husks.

Interesting points. Is it just impact force that is affected by the evolution to heavy shockwave? Shep can compensate for that by going Amplifier Pads + Upgrades + Destroyer, but not for lack of AoE.

I think I'll be going Improved on this playthrough. I can think of quite a few times where Heavy Shockwave managed to miss husks despite travelling right past them.

Because the Wii is a crappy, unintuitive system whose only selling point (novelty) doesn't make up for the inferior graphics and processing power of the machine.

I'm not sure I get the point of Shockwave. It seems kinda like throw only not "instant" so enemies can dodge it, but sorta-kinda AoE.

The one advantage I can think of to Shockwave is that it hits enemies hiding behind cover. Is there something I'm missing?

Its a AoE Biotic that does not need 10 points to be AoE.

It actually does pretty good damage versus shields and low level armour. The Heavy version also has a massive range, can sorta snipe people with it.

Whenever I start using I always end up spamming it. But yes it is pretty niche.

i dont know the name but the one that is says it becomes a train. that with concussive blast and whatever other power takes down everything without a shield so all you have to do is pick people off

even on lower difficulties i dont really see the point of shockwave, area charge is actually viable and effective and does pretty much the same thing along with shield replenish, and using cd's on charge is what vanguards do, shockwave has too long a cd to be good.

it really depends on how you play which skills you pick, i happen to like shockwave and i use it all the time, its a great power. The heavy shockwave will go further i believe and the other one is just wider, I would go with the heavy because if you take half of a husks armor down with a bit of smg spray, the shockwave will kill them in one hit. If you are a shockwave fan, take Neural shock as your special it crushes husks and The one that hits multiple targets will leave collectors open for a shockwave hit.

I demand Bioware implements Project Natal support just for shockwave bowling motions NAO

If you're on your 4th play-through, I don't understand why you would be playing on veteran.
