I may answer to this question saying "Yes, Maybe I do..." I like to think that people sometimes may find something more important for them, and when this happens they decide it's time to lay down the arms and give way to someone who is more motivated.
You like the idea of an hero who live is life like an eternal mission...and in order to to this is able to renounce to friends, beloved, companions... maybe you are right but these are you tastes.. My ideals are quiet different...

About the romances, well R.A. Salvatore's Forgotten Realms books almost always feature the same band of adventurers who have some romances amongst them that persist through several books. They don't HAVE to settle down somewhere to keep the romance going.
Of course there's no voice acting in books and I can very much understand them not spending the money on expensive actors in expansions, however for the main story I don't see any reason why not... I know availability of the actors was mentioned as an issue but thats what contracts are for, they could have contracted them for 3 games right from the start. They do similar things with movies and the budget of a game and a movie doesn't differ that much anymore these days.

@Liso66.. There are 2 moments in main quests I found a little tedious.. , The deep roads during the dwarv's quest and the fade during the circle mage tower quest... But this was just because playing on PC platform I had an annoying bug... When I go to free my companion by their nightmare, after I defeat the enemies I have to talk to them 3 or 4 times doing again and again the same dialogue before "unlock" the second dialogue and this is really boring
Instead of doing that...just wait til the cutscene loads...for some odd reason it is slow to do that. I note it does that ..think its the Templar's Nightmare in the fade...same thing. What I do once I kill all the monsters is run back up the stairs stand there, and then the cutscene finally kicks in. Its annoying yes. I am on my 13th run...STILL haven't made any male characters. Humm maybe I should.
HAS ANYONE..managed level 25 yet, I think I have scoured every map possible and the highest I get is level 23 and a half. hehe frustrating. Far as I know I have done every quest in the book too.

having a female warden partner in the team will surely be fun

Do I want to see my PC moving on, having a family and sitting down to dinners with the kids? Er.. No! I could play Sims 3 for that.. I'd also like to mention, Sims 3 lost my interest very fast. I would like to see our endings cleaned up and put in a nifty little package for closoure.
Would I like the story of "my grey warden" progress?
To a point. However, I am not adverse to having a brand new story in the coming expansions or even DA2. I see it this way. Bioware did an amazing job as getting me attached to my character and my companions. I even adored some of the external NPC's and would have loved to be able to interact with them more. I feel they are able and will do the same regardless. Leave us wanting more is a good thing. They did their job.
We can speculate and assume until the games are released. We now know what to expect in Awakenings. sort of anyway. I am not going to put the game away just because it did not go the way I assumed or expected. I feel I'd be missing out and punishing myself of some fun entertainment. That is the key here. This is entertainment. Play! have fun! and try not to stress over what may or may not happen later on down the road. Gaming should not cause stress wrinkles.. "laughs"
Have fun
Play hard
Game hard
and oh yeah! Have fun!
that is the whole point anyway..

@Feraele - I never thought the scene have to load itself... thank you...
@Liso66 - I won't play something like Sims... (btw I hate sims...) I am just saying that after some adventures I like to have the opportunity to say to my character "well... thank you for all... Now you are free to have your own life" and to begin a new adventure with a new character...

Hello All. Hope everyone had a good week-end. I've read the most recent posts and found the discussion very intelligent, interesting and lively! Here's my 2 sovereigns: I would actually like the option to have some continuity when playing my character across expansion packs and new campaigns. This might not suit everyone, but I get tired of 60 hrs and out. Also, who says that companions/romances and adverturing are mutually exclusive. I believe there would be a way to stay with a partner while taking on new adventures and meeting new people. Imagine the complex, adult situations you could find yourself in if you & your partner are separated for a time and then come back together. This is character, story and interaction which I find fascinating. And, let's face it, it's refreshing to have some "mature" content in games and not just related to sexual escapades. Those in long-term relationships know that the romance part is easy - keeping it going is hard. Seeing the way this creative team developed the Origins stories - different beginnings that merge into the same story with variations during the main storyline - I believe they could do the same thing with the various endings from the main campaign and incorporate into a new adventure. If you look at the endings as new beginnings, I think it's entirely doable. (Not to say that it isn't labor-intensive - it is and kudos to this writing team for the detail and complexity of divergent storylines.) So, I'm hopeful that there will be some continuity across expansions. If any team would be able to accomplish it, it would be this team. Anyway...thanks for letting me ramble. Back to the grind!
Yes indeed. That seems the progression Mass Effect is taking. Like I said before though. We'll have to just wait and see what Bioware choses to do. I for one trust them to give us a good story and adventure regardless.

Well didn't Odysseus actually end up settling down with his family (and admittedly king of Ithaca :-)) at the end of Odyssey, so heroes do settle down sometimes :-) (though that can be the end of the story sometimes admittedly)
Curlian.. I have no idea what you are talking about...

Same could be said about Zev I guess, not sure he could manage to be monogamous hehe
It would also be fun if instead of us sometimes hitting on NPCs that some NPCs would try to hit on us... Would make it interesting to see how long and how easily players could keep their character faithfull that way!

Finished my mage playthrough today.... everything went well I think. I'm now waiting to see what happens in Awakening.
Don't know if I should finish my warrior save now. I still have 2 treaties to complete before the Landsmeet. I haven't finished the game with a warrior yet... lol just rogues and mages

We at least know one of the last choices you make about who becomes king/queen has an effect... We can't yet know what all the other choices will do...shedevil3001 wrote...

And Liso is right, perhaps DA2 will use them!

This is one of the things I always felt was missing from allot of relationship tracks in cRPGS (whether it was romantic or friendship, but this is particularly a feature in romance tracks) is that it often tends to be over once you have slept together etc, making the whole thing more like a side quest then a RP situation with companion characters etc. On of the things I liked about BG2 Throne of Bhaal is it did allow the relationships forged in BG2 to continue and develop beyond the 'we've got together so the romantic quest is done' stage, but continued it allowing you to feel your PC was in a relationship with said companion character
@Liso66 that depends sadly on if DA2 continues with our Warden or is set significantly in the future and possibly has little bearing on DA (except possibly for Morrigan's god-child)
