So recently I came across this save file editor on Facepunch forums.

Direct link to tool: http://mod.gib.me/ma...eedit_rev25.zip

It allows you to view and modify variables for your character(s), such as gender, history, class etc.

It also allows you to view your ME1 import data that manifests itself inside your ME2 save.

I noticed that the information for Conrad Verner and how you dealt with him had two checks selected - Paragon and Renegade.

This is probably what has caused the issue that many people have faced in ME2 - Conrad thinks you were Renegade to him in ME1.

I also discovered that there were no checks placed for who you chose as Councillor at the end of ME1. This is the most likely cause of the little quiz you get in ME2, which will go with whatever response you make despite potentially making the opposite choice in ME1.

This tool is used for a lot of things but I find it most useful for placing the correct checks for ME1 data.

To successfully see what you've changed, you need to modify your ME2 save file (which should contain a ME1 import), then start a new game with your modified ME2 save.

You can import it straight away, without completing the game, by checking the "Lived to Fight Again" flag and unchecking any flags related to that (eg. "Not Finished").

Apologies if I have confused anyone. Please let me know if you are unsure on anything.

I have done a virus-check on this tool - it's clean.

I'll get right to it but it will take a while because I'd have to start a new ME2 game.

Will do.

Regarding the Councillor choice modifcation: no mention of it during the little quiz, so I take it that the game recognised who I chose in ME1 after I had checked it in the program.

So far, so good.

I'd also like to see a video, if you could update us all in this thread. :)

You really have to do an "import ME2 character" to get these edits to register? Is it creating a mirror of these ME1 flags in its ME2 data or something?

This will come in handy due to me lossing my ME1 saved game in a PC crash after holding onto it for years.

Yes, unfortunately you must start a new game to see any changes you've made.

I'm not entirely 100% on how the magic works but I just know that you're simply changing the ME1 variables inside your ME2 save file.

OK, I can confirm that there is no Paragon Conrad Verner encounter.

No idea why BioWare decided to skip this.

IRL this could be explained by the elasticity of the human brain. Not as a tissue/organ, but in storing, processing and iterating memories. Verner just recalled his encounter with Shep like he wished it had been.

i should point out there are options for who you chose as councilor

its in the screenshot "[Citadel] Chose Anderson" and "[Citadel] Chose Udina"

likewise "saved the council" and "abandoned the council" are under citadel

FYI you must start a new game+ for these to take effect, to do this easily go into the 'raw' tab and find the mission status option, set this to "lived to fight again" and you can import this save as an ME2 character without completing the game first

What exactly do you mean there is no Paragon Conrad Verner encounter?

I played ME 1 completely as paragon and I had an encounter with Conrad Verner on Illium. I helped him to solve his smuggle case.

You mean he'll acuse you of 'shoving a gun into his face' no matter which ME1 plot flag you ticked in the editor?

Yes.

But you can still set flags for other things that work, such as the Councillor option.

That's a bit strange. I suspected that sidequest wouldn't change much, but I figured they would at least have changed that one line.

My guess is if you played a Paragon and convinced Conrad he is not Spectre material the Paragon way he doesn't try to become Shepard. Personally I'd rather have the interaction regardless of the flubbed line.

Same here, also.. the more we talk about the possibilities of him being mentally unstable, the greater the chance of Bioware declaring that was their goal in the first place :P

What's the deal with Bioware not saying if this was intended or not?
