This multiplayer hate is seriously misplaced. No one is expecting or asking (in this thread) for Dragon Age to turn into WOW or an MMO etc. Bioware makes single player story driven games, and we love them for it. But an earlier title of theirs, Neverwinter Nights, which was very similar to Dragon Age in almost every other way, also had the ___OPTION___ of online multiplayer built into it. It was still, just like Dragon Age, a single player story driven game with all the conversation options, companion influence, etc.
The purpose as I understand it, was to ALLOW THE OPTION of multiplayer USER GENERATED CONTENT ( IE, persistent worlds, or old fashioned DMing in DND style).
I am not a programmer, but would it really be so hard to add that capability to the toolset for modders? I am honestly not sure how popular the DM function ever was, and persistent world people will take care of themselves, so it wouldn't necessarily require much aftermarket support, or servers or things like that. Nor would Bioware need to retool the official campaigns or make multiplayer compatible expansions, the modding user base would take care of that.
Or is it that the game engine itself is just somehow totally incapable? If someone official could comment on that it would clear things up I think.
