I have the collectors edition(got on release), up until today(2am this morning uk time) it was working fine but when I try to play it now I'm getting the me2 cdkey check 'failed to authenticate disc. please insert correct disc and try again' error(I have disc one in the drive, it's been in there since I installed the game).

will uninstalling and reinstalling fix this(will I be able to continue my saved game if I need to reinstall?)?  I don't want to end up with a £35($50-$60) costers.

When uninstalling, it should ask if you want to keep your saved games or not.

But if the disc is failing, you probably won't be able to re-install. It could also be your drive.

But it's within 30 days, can't you exchange discs?

I think my dvd-rw might be the culprit, tho I'm not 100% and have to swap it out to make sure.

I have the same issue with the regular edition. Uninstalling and reinstalling did -not- fix the problem, and I've tried the disk in two different drives that otherwise work perfectly.

Something odd is going on.

I reported this problem to EA about 6 weeks ago and they couldn't provide a solution. I went this forum today and found out the DLA soffware was causing this error. I went to the DVD drive and right clicked , clicked properties, clicked on DLA to unable but there was no such option. Went to add/remove programs and removed the Sonic hardware. It works!!!!thanks guys...the support team at EA should check with you before wasting time...

I have the same issue. What is the point of buying a game if you can not play it. I should of just gone to a pirate site and downloaded a illigal copy. There is alot less headache with a pirated copy then there is with a leagal copy. WTF!!! Come on EA you will start to lose out on customers if this type of issue goes over more of your game titles.

Instead of going to a Warez related solution, you could try and image the game with Alcohol 120% or DT Pro. That is legal, and all you are doing is making a backup of your disc.
