So I am entering my fifth playthrough, I beat it as an Infiltrator on Normal and Veteran and as an Engineer on Hardcore and Insanity. However, now I am having a hard time deciding what class to play for this run. I find myself enjoying the tech orientated classes a lot more in ME2, whereas I favored biotics in ME1, so naturally I am inclined to pick the Sentinel. However, I am unsure if the Sentinel suits my playstyle. From a few videos I saw, the Sentinel class is more conservative, defense orientated class. Their damage potential is slightly lower than most classes yet their ability to survive is higher. If I could get some more feedback about the Sentinel regarding its damage and playstyle, that would be greatly appreciated.

Mmm, I have 2 playstyles for my sentinels. 1 is the conservative "commander" where I use my abilities to strip defenses, then order my squad to kill'em in the red. the second is the assault sentinel (commando!). Where I use the tech armor burst to allow me to melee everything. This is alot of fun, and follows the Vanguard Play Method (Get up in face, melt), Takes a bit of getting used to, because I try to play it without using bonus powers or the advanced weaponry. (so uh yeah, that leaves the SMG) for the build, I max warp/overload, Techarmor (Assault), Sentinel (um, whatever the cooldown bonus is), and spread the leftovers around the other 2 powers. I generally save my power for techarmor refresh, because it gets blasted ALOT. and use the overload/warp to deal with heavily defended boss mobs. This is still a work in progress for me though, but fun as hell.

I played an in-your-face Sentinel on Insanity without any points in the bonus power. There's a thread somewhere around here about people's suggestions for an "Assault Sentinel Spec." Long story short:

Max Tech Armor (Assault)

Max class power (Guardian)

Max Overload so you aren't wasting ammo on shields (I went with Area)

Put at least one point in Cryo Blast

Shotgun or Assault Rifle for bonus weapon (I picked shotty)

Some recommend taking an ammo power as your bonus, but I just set up a couple squad members with Squad Inferno Ammo, which stuns organics and rips through armor. Assuming that you and a squad mate can pretty much clear everyone's shields in the room with Overloads and/or Energy Drains, it's pretty easy to rush enemies, blast them in the face, rely on your tech armor's knockdown to blast them further, and take cover while your armor cools down to be reapplied. Very nice aggressive play style, and once you get some cooldown bonuses, you don't even really need to take cover very often to recharge your armor.

Shotgun, I maxed out Throw, Why? Cuz you can 1 shot Husks :)

Plus it recharges pretty darn fast, I had like 3 points in Warp 2 or 3 in Overload, I never bothered with Cryo, maxed out Tech Armor & Passive I had warp ammo as my bonus maxed out.

You play as a skirmisher, with the shotgun, its nice.

I played somewhat more of a defensive playthrough with the sentinel.

throw 2

Heavy warp 4

Tech Armor 4 the upgrade that gave me more shields

Overload 2

Cryoblast 2

Raider 4 because I liked the bonus to power damage with blood dragon armor gave me %30 more damage

Area energy drain 4. Because energy drain replenished shields and saw that this was a staple move to my sentinel to keep his shields up at all times. Because I found that casting your tech armor in the middle of a fight reduced you to using only your gun because cool down even with the extra %10 more that the other class specialization gives you still takes a long time to cool down. I used throw even at level 2, helped with killing husks right away and stunning foes who were charging at me. Cryo blast is so under appreciated but it saved my butt a many times in the middle of a fight. It freezes the target and increases damage which helps you incapacitate and kill faster. I did heavy warp because I use it with Samara's pull field to set up warp bombs in combat. Plus her area reave is fun. Area Drain is pretty much overload with the added effect of giving you the extra shields. And with heavy warp those are your two skills to strip defenses. I also took either Mordin, Miranda, or thane with me because with thane and miranda you get two extra warps and an extra throw with thane. Plus the extra health and weapon damage from miranda is very much appreciated. Plus with just you and miranda no enemy defenses stay up for long.

Very nice, similar to how I played Sentinel. Very similar to ME1 Vanguard.
