I'm a soundtrack afficianado one might say. I thought the music for Mass Effect 1 and 2 was excellent. But I think Bioware could take a cue from the Halo franchise and use a real orchestra like Bungie did with Halo 3. Bungie used a 60 piece orchestra and 20 voice choir for the Halo 3 soundtrack and you can really hear the difference. It just really sets every thing apart. When you're concluding a trilogy go all out. Some might say focus on other things but one of the elements that sets the emotional tone is music. Anyway those are just my thoughts I think the music for ME2 was excellent better than ME1 probably can't wait for an actual disc to be released.

I didn't care for ME2's soundtrack. Not anything memorable like the music playing on Feros or Noveria.

I loved the Mass Effect 2 soundtrack, 'The End Run', 'Suicide Mission', and 'The Normandy Reborn' were really awesome.
I don't see the need to change the way the music is made, it's fine for me!

Normandy Reveal
Suicide Mission
Legion's Theme
Samara's theme
just those 4 are noteworthy imo

I have faith they'll do ME3 music the justice it deserves. I liked both sound tracks.

I am a huge fan of his Myst 3 and 4 soundtracks, but somehow, Jack's compositions in ME2 seem to fall a bit flat...like, there's something missing. It comes across as too synthetic, almost like a generic MIDI in some cases.

I'll listen to them on youtube or try to find them on the net. There were just no music that caught my attention while i was going through the game. I did enjoy the creepy music during the collector ship however.

The music that caught my attention the most included some parts of the suicide mission, and the reaper fleet approaching the milky way at the end.

I wonder how expensive Hans Zimmer is.

If there is one good thing about halo, it is indeed their music scores.
Epic. in a word.

Please, please no. His Modern Warfare 2 score was awful.

I'm probably going to get flamed for saying this but I really disliked the ME1 sound track. There was very little about it that was melodic or emotionally engaging. ME2's soundtrack on the other hand helps set the tone rather nicely.

I would like it to be similar to ME 1s soundtrack. No piece will ever top Vigil though.

Does the OGS contain the combat music played on the Derelict Reaper? Best one there is!

My favorite piece is played at a few time throughout the game but the first time is on Horiizon and the guns start firing at the Collector ship. Does anyone know which one that is?

My favorite theme from ME2 was the music playing on the top floor of Afterlife. It was the first moment in the real world of ME2 that sucked me into the atmosphere of the ME universe again and the music had a lot to do with it (along with the Asari pole dancers).

I don't think a live orchestra makes that big of a difference these days. Orchestral versions of SNES soundtracks, sure, but now whenever a game transitions to an orchestra, it's as if they arrange things for the sake of demonstrating the dynamic range of the orchestra. I think the energy is still there regardless of how it's being played.
I don't think HGW even used an orchestra for MGS4.

Personally I'd prefer a bit of a return to the more synth-based ambience of the first game, but I realize that this is probably unlikely, and we'll get more heavily orchestral scores since that's what people associate with buzzwords such as "epic." Seems the common idea is thus: "it needs to be more epic. Add more strings!"
I think my favorite pieces of music from ME2 are the eerily atonal sustained ambience of the Collector ship and the electronic grind of Jack's theme, which just fits her character so well. Tali's theme is good as well. They're all heavily driven by synth.

I consider The Normandy Reborn a very close second, but yes, Vigil is the juggernaut.
