Damn, you beat me too it, I was about to say the same thing. I'm pretty sure theres various groups of them spread out. Even if they did ALL die that doesn't mean the end of the legion, a new one would be formed.

But things look very bad for the dwarfs.

When you join the legion, they have a funeral for you. From that point on you are considered dead.
