Do people want Miranda in ME3 for her character value or combat skills? Or both? I found her a better character than a combat partner.
Really? She was an essential combat partner on my team. But since I have no idea what sort of abilities she might have in ME3 I will just say that I want her back for her character.
I want my strong XO to help lead my team to victory.
One thing that draws me to Miranda's is exactly that she is interesting and attractive (in various ways) as a character and very useful in combat. She's part of most of my teams, and if not, it's only because I want to hear the occasional comment from others, not that there are many. By far the most useful squad member in combat, excepting only very few situations.
BTW, as opposed to most others, I think she and Jacob make a good team (for combat purposes only, mind you!) because of the warp explosion, particularly with a Sentinel Shepard.
Obligatory Miranda morning greeting:

BTW: The "event":
When I came back from roleplaying last night, I noticed the hubbub about the "event". *LOL and ROFLMAO* I don't think I laughed so hard in the recent few weeks! They could hardly have created a worse public relations failure if they'd wanted to. I wonder who's responsible for that little stunt, I'm sure he or she has nightmares as I write this. It takes a particular combination of stupidity and ignorance to turn a nice little idea, if less than overwhelming, into a failure of epic proportions.
I don't think people will let them forget this for years. I've been on various ME-related forums this morning, and everyone's talking about it! Event-related signatures abound, and quotes of "Ah yes, 'the rest of the world'. We have dismissed that claim". I wonder if EA/Bioware get what they want out of this, but whatever it is, it doesn't outweigh the damage.

@Arijharn: Your aussie sig amuses me.
I can't take credit for it, I saw it as part of whether Cerberus is good discussion (or "their methods might be extreme"... I can't remember) and it amused me too.

Since we don't have much to talk about, who's getting Splinter Cell Conviction when it's out in a couple of weeks?
Definitely. To be honest, I wasn't that keen after the abortion that was Double Agent (sorry, don't mean to offend, it just really wasn't 'Splinter Cell' and thus I hated it, I only played it once through while all the others, especially Chaos Theory, saw me play it through at least 4 times).
I dl the demo on xbl and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, I just hope it has an awesome story which should be the case since it's a Splinter Cell game. The execution moves are bad ass and the way Sam now moves is also just... more organic.
Sam has nothing to loose now, everything to gain and he wants somebody's head.
I just hope Irving Lambert survived the 'canon' ending.

I want to, but there are still a ton of other games I have/want to catch up on first. I haven't even gotten around to playing the demo yet, honestly. Are you going to get it?andysilv87 wrote...

Yeah, I agree, Double Agent was lacking. Chaos Theory was just amazing, my favourite game of last gen. I always loved the Hokkaido level where you can pull the guards htrough the paper walls and kill them, hehe, that never got old.

Yes, I really enjoyed the demo second time I played it. The First time I found the controls a bit difficult to adjust too and I thought Sam seemed a little heavy when moving. But after that, I was soon breezing through and stealthing it up, lol. Great fun!

Yes, Lambert has to survive, he was awesome. Especially when Dennis Haysbert, aka David Palmer voiced him!
Edit: Yes Meg, I'll definitely be getting it! I'm a huge Splinter Cell fan.

I wouldn't know about the effects of a fanfic background. But I'd like to point out that there are people who don't consider being alone (as in not having a romantic relationship) for the rest of one's life as all that bad. I hope I'll not make Kabraxal faint again when I repeat that love isn't everything, and that "the essence of balance is detachment". I've one Shepard in ME/ME2 who will probably stay single, and it makes me think about what she'll do with her life, and what Miranda will do with her life since there's no one who fits her in that universe. It's possible, and it doesn't need to feel sad at all.jtav wrote...
I'm back. Feel once again like I'm speaking a different language than some people on the forum. I very much doubt Miranda will find anyone else in game, but that's what futurefic and AU are for. I refuse to have her be alone for the rest of her life, even if only in my head, because Shep's affections are otherwise engaged. My fanfic background's showing again, isn't it?

Having said that, I kinda miss the distinct fully enclosed stealth suit of old.

The only strange thing I thought about Conviction that was strange was the cover system that has been so used recently, but it does make the game more, I dunno, realist/flowing than before. The last known position and the simplified stealth system I thought was superior to the ways of old.

The cover system is a bit strange. I thought it felt weird having to hold down a button to stay in it, I like locking to cover and being able to easily look around to spot the best route forward.
I too will miss the stealth suit, that thing was just bad ass and iconic, lol.
Another thing I think we'll be missing, and it was kind of missing from DA is the humour. I always thought Splinter Cell had some great comedic moments in it despite the seriousness of the situation. It added another side to Sam's character which made him that much more likeable.

That's really hard to say. I'm of two minds about it, but I can imagine that she will, at some time. I don't think it would be immediately after ME3 - then, I think they'd both want to enjoy some time off from important responsibilities like saving the galaxy or having children. But I can imagine that eventually, she would want children.jtav wrote...
Upthread I mentioned that my ultimate happy ending for Miranda is her telling her own daughter she loves her unconditionally. Most of that is because my own view of her is deeply tied to the fact that I think her dad psychologically abused her. The cycle's broken, her demons put to rest. But I'm curious: do you guys think she'll ever want kids?
I'm not so sure if I would like to see something like that in an ME3 epilogue. I admit the scene is sweet, but I dislike the tendency to turn every epic story into a family story. I think the ending should focus on the bigger picture and leave the personal matters more open-ended.

ugh no kids please - that stuff is better left to fics. anyway you don't need kids to rationalise trauma or validate your existence, that can be done just by being loved/in a relationship.

I don't like splinter cell. Tom Clancy games are cool, but I have yet to finish one, I get bored with them...

I hope though that when they release it, there isn't going to be like: VERSION 1 where the end happens one way, VERSION 2 where it happens completely different and 3 where it has yet another plot twist... it's too bewildering I think.
Speaking of Tom Clancy, is anyone else actually looking forward to Ghost Recon: Future Soldier?

Miranada is very good as part of any team, but jacob is pretty useless - other team members are better in every area (grunt for shotguns against husks and incendiary ammo, samara for biotics etc). miranda is far and away my most-used team-mate on pretty much every mission. the only area she falls down on is pure heavy-combat because of her limited weapons (upgraded smgs notwithstanding).
it's one of those things that sounds really nice on paper and as an idea: "lets do something for the community and celebrate our anniversary at the same time!" but is completely let down by the execution (and probably the legal department of EA). as a result there's really no point of having it at all if 70-80% of your market can't participate, the negative publicity alone should have made them think.Ieldra2 wrote...

As regards the 'event' well, I think it's all been said already. There's shooting yourself in the foot, and then there's shooting yourself in the foot with the Cain. One's painful but can be recovered from, the other is just flat out humiliating.
