Well, it narrows the options for women to be fans of a particular LI. Jacob's smooth talking is just crap from what I hear, so's he's not that popular either. Garrus is also non-human. So Miranda is the only one left.

Hard to say how many women stick to their ME1 LI Gaidan, since I like to stereotype those fans as men.

You can be fans of a character without liking them romantically. I know some women who consider Tali a little sister.

makes me wonder if thane had been jacob and jacob thane (character-wise) would their popularities be reversed, too?

tali is a much better character in the sequel - less encyclopaedia of the quarians and an actual character, so i can see the appeal there, however unrealistic. miranda is one of the best characters because she's so complex - seemingly one-note before you gradually break down her defences, revealing the hidden layers and vulnerability underneath.

I have finally figured out why the sex scene bugs me. The engine room would already be virtually deserted because of the kidnapping. And there's no acknowledgment of this and no real sense of the seriousness of what's going on.

All the romances ignore the kidnapping. Miranda's one doesn't stand out as an oddity more than any other one.

I roleplay my Shep as though he is connecting with one of the last humans on board and that the location is chosen by Miranda so as to bring life back to the Normandy.

I can access the site and from what I can tell, so can everyone else.

For Miranda's loyalty mission I've added everything up to and including meeting Niket. I'm still working out how to continue past this point because unique dialogue occurs depending on what happens. Need to implement a decision tracker of sorts.

Hmm... Enjoy? :?

@Maria: I agree, Miri is a strong women befitting of Shepard's awsomeness. Tali is in my opinion does not, she is the damsel in distress and guys do like that.... for a while.  Tali/ Shep relationship is hero worship. Miri/ Shep is two similair people with equel roles in the relationship.

Plus Miri won't die from a cold or intercourse for that matter.Image IPB

It's interesting that the Miranda thread has so many more women than the Tali thread. I wonder why that is?

Perhaps it's because Miranda is a much more empowering role model for a woman than Tali.

Yay!, someone noticed my comment. :)

It's difficult at certain times. Some people are so lost in their conversations that interesting questions and posts get ignored if they're short. That was the reason for the picture - which, in hindsight, was superfluous since the traffic ebbed away as I wrote my post.

Sadly, as you posted that comment with that picture, I have a feeling many will miss the actual words of your post.

In this answer the picture is removed ;)

I think both Tali and Miranda are ‘empowering.’ Miranda might be more sure of herself and in control, but Tali is a technical genius, a role you rarely see women in. One of the things I like about Mass Effect is that it tends to feature women in non-traditional roles: Miranda, Samara, Jack, and Ashley all lack ‘girly’ personalities while Tali and Liara might be girly, but are both in intellectually challenging fields.

Both Tali and Miranda are professionally competent, yes. But Miranda deals with her own emotions in a different way. She is much more aware of herself and can talk about what she feels more easily without negating it, even while remaining a bit insecure about it all. She seems less trapped by her emotions. This is what I think is more "empowering" about her (for lack of a better, less overused term).

Shepard and Miranda are like a binary star system. They both shine brightly and pull and push on each other but neither is diminished or dulled by the loss of the other.

Others tend to be more like planets orbiting Shepard with other LIs just being the closest planet.

I still think the whole Garrus as a LI was a huge mistake.Image IPB He is the best friend! The guy who follows you into battle, not the guy who follows you into bed! I understand the Asari LI possibility, but Turians, Drell or Quarians?

Thanks for the repost, I missed that completely. It's so appropriate.

@Maria:
I wonder what you'd think about the Miranda Manifest (shameless self-plug, I know - but I can't express what I think of Miranda better). It's in the OP of this thread.

i like that analogy.

it does teeter, especially when miranda accepts that she can't inspire like shepard can, and when comparing shepard's "perfection" to her own, but again, the insecurity adds more depth to her character.

Really? You think most of the people in the Kaidan thread are men? That would surprise me very much. It reads too much like your typical fangirl meeting at times.

I've never been to the Gaidan thread... ok, I went once. I saw a pic, and immediately left because:

I just like to wildly speculate on their gender for my own amusement.

Well... don't forget after Grunt's loyalty mission Shepherd did have one mating request from the female camp

The thing with the Garrus LI is that it's more a 'romantic' thing than a 'sexual' thing. Love isn't just about sex.

Cheers for sharing that art. The French forums are so deserted compared to here. This thread alone has only ~8000 fewer replies than the entire French forums.

OK....thanks. Just tell him (??) what I said - it's fantastic, among the very best of Miranda fanart IMO.

Hey...it's gone. I hope it's back soon, but I saved it anyway so it's not lost.
