While we're at it, will the traditional family still exist after the events of ME3? In which way would society be transformed by the events? If Cerberus pushes through its agenda of advancement, what will everything look like? Which unit of society will be responsible for the raising of children? Will love continue to be tied to procreation in some way, or not?Valmy wrote...
I would much rather it be a partnership of equals rather than some inversion of 20th century gender roles.
There are countless possibilities for things to change. For me, to keep things traditional would mean to negate all these possibilities. I want something imaginative, something not seen before at the end, and all these questions about whether Miranda and Shepard will have children and how they would be raised, they go completely in the wrong direction as far as I'm concerned.
Here is one line I am imagining: I consider it inevitable that humanity will split along various lines, gaining more physical diversity through genetic environmental adaptation along with a mix of experimental societies, because if humanity is spread through hundreds of worlds, nobody can control them all. Which could there be? What kind of "clade" would Miranda and Shepard want to belong to. How would they want to live in a universe with infinite possibilities? Would they want their children to be the same as they, or would they want them to be different? For me, senseless adherence to tradition has always been *the* one big thing holding humanity back. I want the end of ME3 to open the way for lifestyles so experimental that they almost seem crazy.
And that's why I want an open end. Because some, surely, will be so crazy I can't imagine them.

I think they should have pretty balanced relationship, with both doing things equally,
Yes that is the best part of video games. There is not going to be any UST or WT/WT crap when I have control of one of the characters.
Well I think the primary reason most of us love Miranda for Shep is the fact she is on his level as a superhero badass and thus his perfect match. It is also the reason I liked Ashely as well, though Miranda is simply more awesome.
Yeah, though these games have been strange and awesome in one way, they could make me think differently. No matter how I could put my mind on sticking with Miri no matter what, they can get close to making me change my mind. I just wish they don't play this card, I have no desire to have my Sheppie jumping from girl to girl in every new game.
I think the ME3 could start with a several month jump from ME2, with main characters reuniting with their friends/love interests after a period apart, due to Shepard going around trying to raise the awareness to Reaper threat. My Shepard could easily become the Revan guy in this next one, if he was left unheard. Building up an able force to give him enough force to do what is necessary, even if he is mainly Paragon.
I also have to wonder, if Shepard would be able to keep Miranda safe from all the crazy Alliance/Council politicians without Cerberus, they seemed to have little to no brain capacity in ME2. They could overlook Shepard's importance and go for Miranda, but I am doubt Bioware is going to put time and effort to build content for one character alone. This makes me think, that the next game might not be good for Miranda, if she doesn't get the attention and development she requires. So many characters and so little time to get a great and awaited product out for all the Mass Effect hungry fans.

Are you suggesting some sort of human cloning (not quite the right word...) program for procreation a la Battletech clans?

Without spoiling anything, I thought Casey's scene was great at the end. You kinda knew it was coming but it's a nice bit of character development.
Of course other scenes were better but I won't spoil them.

Indeed, it was. The best in the season, probably in the history of series. Fortunately the ratings went up as well.
I've been waiting for this a long time ( see below). I doubt it spoils anything, but meh. It's just nice to see her smile a little bit.

That's a good deal for you all over there. Haven't played BioShock 2 yet but I will soon. The first game was epic though, a must for anybody who hasn't played it.

I heard from a source that BS 2 is a disappointment but I do not always credit what he has to say as he is one of those glass half empty types.

I lost my momentum for it a little bit just because it looked so much like the first game. I know that's not really a bad thing when the first was so good but it just seemed so familiar.

I don't know how things are in the Battletech universe. Basically, what I mean is exerting more control over the process of genetic recombination, which would mean not to leave it to the natural process. As far as cloning goes, I personally would like to ensure that every child is still genetically unique, but even that should not be taken as a foregone conclusion.Valmy wrote...

The place where I'm coming from is this: some SF authors have not shied away from trying to envision how future developments could transform society into something almost unrecognizeable. Examples: In Peter F Hamilton's "Dreaming Void", a woman has an affair with a person who has a dozen bodies, all active at the same time and controlled by a multitasking consciousness. In the Takeshi Kovacs novels by Richerd Morgan, human consciousness can be transferred at FTL speed but not bodies, so traveling between the stars means getting into, and adapting to, new bodies. In the Night's Dawn trilogy, again by Hamilton, there exists a society held together by artificially engineered telepathy, which enables a kind of democracy completely incomprehensible to everyone else. And so on, and so on.
The ME universe is altogether retarded when it comes to using SF imagination that way. It's one aspect I don't like about it, and I would like the end of ME3 at least to leave me to imagine some wild future for humanity. And for our favorite couple of heroes, Shepard and Miranda. What kind of future that is, that should be left open. The important thing is that they face it together, walking some path into the unknown. The equivalent of going off into the sunset together.

Shepard and Miranda are like a binary star system. They both shine brightly and pull and push on each other but neither is diminished or dulled by the loss of the other.
Others tend to be more like planets orbiting Shepard with other LIs just being the closest planet.[/quote]

I'm quoting this again, because I think it's one of the best analogies anyone in here has come up with and I don't want it to get glossed over by anyone. I wish I could say more about it, but gutty really hit the nail on the head.

You should try the first game for sure, it's very good. Great FPS, great story and an amazing setting, Rapture is the biz! Kinda creepy though too, although anything with creepy kids has always scared the hell out of me. *Shudder*

Hey Jedi! To be honest... I haven't played them. Considering picking them up though. How was your DAO time last night?
Man this thread started moving fast lol. Boss was just telling me I should watch The Pacific.
BioShock 1 is awesome. There were a couple story elements that managed to actually surprise me, which doesn't happen often lol. And DA:O is quite good so far, Joslo Cousland is prepared to slay some darkspawn and of course get it on with Leliana.
