I don't know if any of you have read the "Abridged Mass Effect" parody, but there's a joke that Miranda is constantly saying "pick me, pick me!" during the suicide mission. Shep chooses her for the barrier, with the usual result. She does seem to think quite highly of her biotics. I suspect it drives her crazy that she is (in game terms) average and that Jack is better despite having no discipline or control.
I read that. It is quite funny - but I resent that the author went to great lengths to make Miranda the butt of his jokes but avoided making even a single one about Tali, who is *very* obviously his favorite character.
Apart from that, yes, I think it irks Miranda that Jack's better than she is. At first. Once she realizes the price Jack pays I think that would change. She still won't like her, of course.
BTW, I don't think she's average in game terms. Jack is better than her only in the narrative and in the suicide mission, never in normal gameplay, where Miranda is far more useful.
