That's not what I said. Love can end just as easily as every other thing you experience in life, that's all. And it's enough reason to call it transient. Or do I misinterpret the term? BTW, how many first loves last until death?
Well if you go by that definition everything but death is transient.
I would suspect the vast majority of first loves do not last until death but plenty have.
I do admit I found my first love on facebook accidentally (she was a friend of a friend) and as soon as I saw her pic all the old feelings from 10+ years ago came rushing back. That was pretty unnerving.
Real love (not to be confused with obsession or lust), is a brand of insanity, and is not transient. You'll always be insane in that one particular way. Relationships tend to be VERY transient. Men have that whole bonding thing though... which once it happens is extremely hard to break. Time and distance really aren't enough to break that chain.

Yeah but she doesn't mention Ashley or Kaidan. Bioware seems to enjoy drawing out the angst from their fans.
I read the thread in its entirety last night those Ash/Kaidan fans were pissed.

Well she's never seen or talked to them so it makes some sense.
She has just as much a chance of seeing them on Horizon as she does of seeing Liara on Ilium. Just sayin'

Well we humans are pretty nuts by nature

What about when relationships are not transient? My POV is rather skewed by the fact that for whatever reason divorce is ridiculously rare in my family. Everybody gets married and stays that way until somebody dies with the only exceptions being a few failed first marriages BEFORE they married and stayed that way until somebody dies. Even my friends are that way. I get that that is weird and unusual these days and I have no explanation for why that is.

To be fair, I'd be pissed too. We're lucky. We got an excellent little comment.
Well we will see how lucky we are by what they decide to do with Miri in the sequel. It could get really lonely for us.

Miranda being romanced: "It's really weird to see Miranda smiling while she's working. And it's all because of you. Be gentle with her, Shepard."
Miranda consummated: "Oh, Shepard. The engine room! Really? Right there where Tali works? Okay, I have to know. Just how genetically modified is she? Because... wow!"
Miranda broken up with well: "I hear you and Miranda broke it off. I thought you were good together. Oh, well. Shows what I know."
Miranda broken up with poorly: "I hear you and Miranda broke it off. Miranda is the last person I'd want pissed off at me. I guess you are as brave as you say."
Miranda rejected: "Word has it Miranda came knocking, and you didn't open the door. Engineered to be perfect, and she's still not good enough for you."
First one made me smile, second one made me laugh, and the last one made me feel like an **** just by reading it...

All the LIs have had one game's worth of focus. The only time I'll feel sorry for any of the fans is if thier LI get royally shafted in ME3 (and even then I probably won't care about some of the romances). Until then its pointless ****ing.

I sort of like that. Bioware seems to be listening to us and realize we love the LI part of the game. I hope to see more of that in the future.
Having said that they really need to fix the 'hard to avoid' LIs and the 'Calibrations' issue when you do not have a romance with a character.

Yes but people cannot be counted on to act selfishly. That is the problem. People often act irrationally for all sorts of bizarre reasons that may not even benefit them at all.
Selfish does not preclude irrational or bizarre, or that the end outcome ends up being negative. Like when people get stupid and think it's a good idea to sacrifice liberty for security. They think they are getting security (which they value highly) for thier sacrifice, but are too stupid to realize that they will lose both. Bizarre, irrational, illogical, and selfish. Yet is has been done repeatedly throughout history.
Also just like anything else as soon as you start looking for selfishness you see it everywhere just like if I were to be convinced people always act out of fear I would start seeing fear everywhere.
Fear is selfish, but selfish is not fear
Take cheesecake. Do I eat it because I'm afraid I will get too skinny? I mean, in extreme cases some people might. Because I'm afrais it's the last cheesecake on earth? I can always make another one. Fear is a powerful and prolific motive, but it's not behind every action.
Fear is a motive; motives are selfish.

That link is great. I especially love the conclusion;
"So, in short, people are stupid, that's a fact."

Kab, you sure are back early, you must be bloody shattered! Are you up early to pick up GTA & L4D?
Already picked them up. Testing GTA as we speak, though I'm probably going to take a nap pretty soon. I have to go somwhere later and being tired is not ideal.

Well, if you get an infinte number of monkies on an infinate number of typwriters, you will eventually get Shakespear.
Relationships are not just limited to marriage. Count the number of people you've developed relationships with, and how many you still have relationships with. Most people are going to have a much larger number of discontinued relationships than current ones. People move, switch jobs, switch schools, switch bars, give up hobbies etc. A lot of those relationships simply won't continue.
Your family may just be trying to make up for the rest of us. I know I can count the number of permenant relationships I have on one hand. And most people I know don't need more than two hands.
