That's fine. I don't want to get yelled at again for confusing people because I chose a girl :P

Only poking fun... though I laughed at Meg's reaction to realising that was me Image IPB

Maviarab's assessment made perfect sense, and I'll do it justice by explaining exactly why, and pardon me Mavi if I analyzed it wrong.
What Mavi was saying was that there are no such thing as "gray area" moral choices, you either do something good or do something bad, or an action will affect something either positively or negatively, there is no middle ground to that. However, emotions can be positive, negative, or in between, what you would call "lack of emotion". That is the difference and that is why the endgame choices to ME2 are either "Good" or "Bad", not both. Having supposed "gray area" choices would be bad for any story. Progression would lack substance, and "gray area" choices would have no good or bad consequences, and then your choices really wouldn't have an affect on anything.
Good and Bad = Choices/Actions
Good, Bad, "Gray Area" = Emotions

This is, sorry to say so, complete nonsense. For it does not consider that actions can have both good and bad consequences. And this is exactly what we mean when we say we want "grey" choices - both choices aren't perfect, both have both good and bad consequences. We make our choices based upon how we value the good and bad consequences.

I have to say I was quite heartwarmed by this post. Too often I feel like the outsider looking in when I'm reading this thread.

:lol::lol::lol:

i would have saved you!

i always sacrifice myself to save others... well in games anyways  :lol::lol:

I would have too, but I didn't know if Meg had my back or not. I knew Ellis did...but the bot doesn't give me much of a confidence boost.

Psh, I always have you back. I actually considered going after him myself, but I wasn't sure if I would get left behind if he died and I stepped off at the wrong moment.

We may be a minority, which is not surprising. IMO, too many people do not consider consequences as part of an action's moral value. Most of us learn an "intrinsic" morality as children, where only the action itself counts. If you internalize such a deontological system, statements like those by Maviarab inevitably result. But if you start looking at principles, values and consequences, simple rules saying "x is wrong no matter what" are not sufficient any more, and as a result the black-and-white universe disappears and is replaced by shades of grey. As children we are unable to deal with the resulting complexity, but as adults we should.

For those interested in this matter, we are dealing with the difference between deontological and consequentialist systems of ethics. In a descriptive account of human morality, both have their place. I consider both "pure" systems undesirable, for pure consequentialism means that "the ends justify the means", and deontological ethics can ignore bad consequences.

@Ieldra/Gutty: You two aren't grasping the concept here. First off I did say certain choices have good and bad consequences, I never lacked that in my assessment. And good choices and bad choices alike alter the game. Just because everyone is happy doesn't mean there wasn't anything affected by your prior choice.

Brb agn folks, and with L4D2

Well, I'm not bearing any gifts, but I wonder if there'd be any interests in ME style "elevator" banter between Miranda and other characters. I could see if I could whip up something.
