I said I'd elaborate on why I think Miranda will probably not want to marry. This is why:

When you look at the role of marriage within a human society, you can see it is twofold. First, it is a personal affirmation of commitment to a relationship. Provided that both can agree about the expectations attached to this affirmation of commitment, Miranda might not have a problem with this part, for in spite of her history of being extremely careful with emotional attachments, she's clearly ready for it with regard to Shepard.

But marriage is also an institution: it puts a stamp on you: "officially sanctioned couple", enshrines the relationship in customs and traditions and from then on, you're recognized as an entity by the society at large. It also signifies that the relationships needs approval from without. However weak this symbolism may have become among the more liberal-minded societies of humanity, I do not think Miranda would care for it at all - you can recognize that if you try to compare her with Ashley. As opposed to Ashley, Miranda is thoroughly non-traditional. She's scientifically-minded and very probably not religious, she works with Cerberus, which requires being morally flexible even if you discount the atrocities she rejects, she herself is the embodiment of overthrowing existing ideas on how things should be done, or not. While she has not answered, for herself, the question of what her being "engineered for perfection" means, she is comfortable with it. I do not think she would care at all for being bound by the customs of a tradition that has a history of questioning the validity of her own existence and the work she does, however diluted it may have become. And all human traditions have such a history, or they wouldn't be what they are.

So, when I think about Shepard and Miranda, I can imagine they'd want to affirm their relationship in some way, but as far as Miranda is concerned, she'll not have "officially sanctioned couple" stamped on her and Shepard. She would not want to marry. In everyday life, the difference may seem negligible, but the symbolism is significant. It's either an expression of the way you think and feel about it, or it will shape how you think and feel about it. For Miranda, it's not the former and she wouldn't want the latter.

I'd like to add that the same thinking does not apply to having children. If Miranda would come to have children, she'd make any effort to ensure they have a better childhood than she herself has had. But in which way that would happen is anyone's guess. I agree with those who say that Miranda will probably want children at some time in the future, but it may well be 20 years after the events of ME3. Between the already increased standard human lifespan and Miranda's extra optimization, 20 years sounds about reasonable. It could be more. At the same time, I would not want ME3 to present us with an epilogue involving Shepard's and Miranda's children, unless it's optional, since I'm undecided about how I'd want  Miranda's future in my games.

To come to my personal preferences, I have repeatedly said I'd like some kind of "riding off into the sunset" ending. This would leave the future unknown, and leaves open the possibility that it will enfold in ways I cannot imagine in this day and time. Marriage would - symbolically - tie Miranda's and Shepard's future to what has come before, instead of making them break away into the unknown.

Good morning, jtav.
I'm aware that this topic is liable to evoke some passion. Perhaps you'd also like to respond to this:

I think you make too much of Miranda's "issues". The only real issue IMO is her selective perception when it comes to Cerberus, for she doesn't think clearly here. Any other aspects you name "issues" I consider personality traits, and even more, Miranda is aware of how she thinks and feels about things there. Sure there are traits that could cause problems for her, and it's legitimate to use them in stories in such a way, but I think we shouldn't overstress them.

I'll respond to your second half now because I'm less like;y to say something dreadfully offensive. Let me say first off that I don't think there's a right way to interpret Miranda. Including mine. That said, I think it's fairly she doesn't feel she has a great deal of self-worth beyond her usefulness as a tool. She says as much. As for trust/intimacy, she does call her trust in Niket a weakness, and I firmly believe it wasn't.

I'm sorry if I give the impression that these issues dominate her. They don't. Her father didn't break her. I just think they're there and find them useful to keep in mind.
