"Batarian platoon inbound on my position! Request fire support!"
"Commander Shepard, this is Alliance Command. We have to deny your request at this time. Fire support is currently occupied on another target. We reccommend you tell your men to hold position and quell any hostiles until we can give you a status update. Good luck, Alliance Command out."
"There is no one left dammit!" Shepard yelled into the comm, but he was too late, the transmission ended. Shepard placed binoculars up to his eyes and looked out beyond his current position, spotting the Batarian platoon slowly moving its way down the very wide bridge. Shepard's position only consisted of makeshift concrete walls for cover and a small alcove nearby that acted as the field armory. Around him lie the bodies of his squad, all killed from previous attacks.
The Batarians suspected they had eliminated Shepard's squad entirely and were beginning to cross the bridge only 100 yards away. Shepard quickly gathered any weapon he could carry from the armory and then set up a fixed mounted machine gun on one of the concrete barriers. Outfitted to the teeth with only a satchel-full of thermal clips, Shepard was in for the fight of his life, and he would have to use each of his weapons conservatively. Shepard loaded his sniper rifle with a thermal clip and immediately targeted one Batarian soldier about 80 yards away and shot him clean in the center of his head, leaving nothing recognizable above the shoulders. The Batarian platoon looked to his position and opened fire. Shepard quickly set down the rifle, hopped onto the fixed machine gun, and loaded a thermal clip. "SONS OF ****ES! DIE!!!" he cried as he opened fire, and then all Shepard could hear was the repeated booming sound of the machine gun, and in his focus nothing else could make him falter. Only the deaths of every single person in front of him mattered, and then time seemed to slow.........
"****!" Shepard exclaimed, waking up from his vivid dream recollecting the Blitz. He sat up in his bed and saw Miranda sitting close by, watching him. "Shepard, you were mumbling and violently convulsing in your sleep. What happened?" Shepard then began to break up and tears streamed down his face. He managed to say, "It was the Blitz. When I....when I was the last man standing in my squad, I had to.....I had to....oh god." Shepard stopped there and resumed his uncontrolled weeping. Miranda drew him in close and kissed him on the cheek. "Its okay Shepard, I'm here for you." Miranda embraced Shepard and consoled him as he couldnt help but relive the horrors of the Blitz.

1) I don't think Shepard had reached the rank of Lieutenant Commander by the time of Elysium, maybe Staff Lieutenant at most but more likely First Lieutenant.
2) Thermal Clips are a relatively new technological innovation in the ME universe. At the time of Elysium weapons were still on passive cooldown.

Yeah I just ignore the haters. There is no Bioware character that does not have legions of haters.
I dare not open that thread.

I know, I thought about that before writing it but I figured it wouldnt really matter. Didnt want to spend time trying to figure out the minor details from the time of the Blitz, so I just used the Commander rank and the thermal clips idea.DarthReavus wrote...
Not bad, but two critiques straight off the bat.

Cooldown to clips story-wise doesnt make sense to me, so I ignore it. Thermal clips are preferable to me anyway.

Just my guess work anyway
EDIT: Though Pressly says that he got his officer's commission after Elysium, which may indicate the Alliance doesn't have seperate enlisted/officer training, rather individuals with the right ability and potential are more rapidly promoted and earn their commissions through the ranks.
Further supporting evidence for this theory is the fact that in ME, Kaidan Alenko only held the rank of Staff Lieutenant at the age of 32 despite being a highly decorated soldier. Also Ashley Williams was a Gunnery Chief at the age of 25, an NCO rank whose modern day equivalent you'd be lucky to reach by 30 in most militaries.
Shepard may only have been a Corporal or Service Chief on Elysium, but as a result of his actions been put through the N7 training programme which I can almost guarantee is a fast-track through the ranks.

I've done it. I've posted a few things and told them, if they understandably don't want to read our whole extremely long thread with it's often page-long Miranda-less chats in-between, they should at least read the OP.Annjul666 wrote...
