I just don't understand it. So the writers chose the engine room! So what! Why does that mean the romance is meaningless.

RL implications? I can't seem to follow your thoughts.....jtav wrote...
I find myself growing quite protective of Miranda. How ironic, considering I view her as a very dark grey anti-hero. I know, haters. But I still get defensive when they imply she's a poor little rich girl, slept with TIM/is incompetent/her relationship with Shep is less meaningful because the sex was in the engine room. The RL implications make my skin crawl.
I also don't view her view her as an anti-hero, and in my opinion she's considerably less dark, but that may have something to do with my different approach to ethics. So being protective is easy.

I'm glad we're on the same page
seriously though, I often find myself doing exactly the same..even though it's not very rational..if only we could get some more Miri related game stuff (a dlc maybe)

You should consider making a group that allows for greater room to speak about the intricacies of the characters (in this case Miranda), without fear of upsetting someone.Nightwriter wrote...
I love the things jtav brings up about Miranda. It's hard for us non-regulars to keep up with the off topic chats sometimes.
That, or use the group I created (serious discussion). Just a suggestion.

Miranda has occasionally been in front in all rounds from the first day. That tells me there's a pretty consistent group of people who don't like her, but so far others haven't jumped on the bandwagon.firecleaner wrote...

Actually, it's interesting to observe how people behave in these polls, how between one round and the next someone like Wrex gets from 11 votes in the previous round to 153 in the next. Strange dynamics there. Garrus ended up with 12 last round, already in the front now. I wrack my brain trying to explain that.

I'm not sure.
I think I would gear more toward a group that discusses all characters and welcomes all points of view, not just those of the fans of those characters. Advertising the group, getting to all those people and making sure it's not just a character clubhouse might be difficult.

"poor little rich girl:" being denied love and approval and treated as means to an end isn't damaging.
"Slept with TIM:" a woman cannot be both beautiful and competent.
"Having sex in the engine room makes the relationship meaningless/Miranda is a s**t:" Only people who have perfectly conventional sex can have meaningful relationships. Women should not enjoy sex with more than person, or she better have a heap of trauma to explain it.
Yeah, that rubs me the wrong way.

You got that sense also? misogyny is alive and well. Hey at least Miranda is not a male character then she would be boring and disliked because her good looks would make the male players uncomfortable and jealous of a rival.

I just don't understand it. So the writers chose the engine room! So what! Why does that mean the romance is meaningless.
Especially when Miranda states very strongly that it's a pretty big deal to her.
"What idiotic bunch of hormones thought that now was a great time for love?"

Because they are unable to find real arguments based on reality so they have to make up crap that makes no sense.

If Miranda were Mark, I the male gamers would dislike her more, but I think he'd be a bit more popular with female gamers. We like to drool, too. And Mark/Jack fic would bury the internet.

And, frankly, if all she wanted was sex, she wouldn't have waited so long. They'd have been having sex shortly after the kiss. No need for Shep to promise he won't die if it's all about lust.
yep, that sums it all up

Well yes but we very rarely get those arguements. There are several points you can bring up because, as you say, she is a flawed character. But the haters do not bring those up.
I know women like to drool, in fact women fawning over men is my #1 turn on, but look at Kaidan. He is drooled over in buckets and there does exist several folio of fan fics about him, but he is still one of the least popular characters.

If you pay any attention at all to the romance, what she and Shep say to each other, the arguement it is a fling simply doesn't hold up to any scrutiny.

Ah...then we're in complete agreement. Yes, I noticed these vibes, too, and I find them as disgusting as you. But compared to what I've seen elsewhere, this is mild, and anyway it's almost useless to argue with the originators of these ideas.jtav wrote...

Yeah I have a hard time restraining myself sometimes. I try to stay out of the other threads as much as I can.
Bioware characters sure stir up strong emotions in people for better or worse.

I'm staying out of that thread for my own sanity. I'm afraid I'll say something I regret. But the misogyny boggles my mind. Yes, she's sexually experienced and has sex in the engine room for whatever reason. Who the bloody hell cares? She's allowed to have her fun. She isn;t any less worthy or capable of love than Tali.

What? You mean women are not either virgins or ****s?
