I am John Shepard.  But then my name is John IRL and it is the best name EVAH.

And I decided to look like default Shep.

But that doesn't mean my Shep is not my own....not that you were saying that that meant he wasn't.

Er...you know what I mean...

Infiltrators and specialists classes are great fun. I just can't think of it as a Canon Shepard.

Besides, both games are shooters and Im a total  sucker for combat-oriented who don't take advantage of a poorly balanced weapons system, lol. Pistols and Marksman in ME1,
anyone?

I wasn't referring to Paragon/Renegade paths, but rather about how Promo Shep totally sounds like a total combat-oriented hardass regardless of alignment. I honestly just can't think of a Sentinel/Engineer/Adept sounding like that, lol.

I also kinda have this thing for default names and skins, but I don't hold it against players if it doesn't get
creepy. I don't even mind the hair.

Naming and modeling Shep after yourself is being a little too literal with the RPG motif imho. Oh well.

Um...I clearly phrased that wrong.

I decided to have my Shep be default Shep and decided to keep John since that is my name and I like the name.  I did not make my Shep to look like me and name him after me.  I do not resemble Mark Van Der Loo even a little bit.

I think default Shep is cute. I use him. Wish he had hair though. He'd look hotter.

The only really sad part about soldiers is how assault rifles are sort of underpowered.  I don't mind the recoil that much, but why the hell would the Bioware crew think that it's perfectly sensible for a bloody M4 to pack less punch than a .45???

Wait, that was an impersonal *you*.

I'm not gonna sift through the whole thread for precedents of either instances. ;)

I never do soldiers, I love biotics too much. But I hated the way the assault rifles only fired in these short little bursts...

I find the AR fun and amazing, I love the Vindicator and Rev :wizard: but ya Vanguards got a huge bonus in ME2. I love charge, however I loved Sential more then Infiltrator my self.

Just put Reave on a Soldier, it's not alot but it's still a biotic power and pretty much a badass warp that sucks life out of organics.

Just checking.  Kraidy also made it sound like I left the impression I made Shepard be like myself. Image IPB

Biotics are fun. I just don't dig that much the idea of Shep being a biotic god/goddess. Leave it to the squishy squadmates. Or Wrex. But he was too awesome to be included in any comparison, really.  But then again, having Wrex use Throw was somewhat of an ironic fail. Oh well.

Seriously, though, I seem to recall Aiden saying that line about Shep's biotics regardless of whether or not your class actually used them. Kinda like that Sole Survivor line with Toombs. Bug, but still rather telling.

For some reason, I really *really* dig the idea of Shep telling the brass to f*** off with their biotic training after Akuze. I mean, if it can't protect a squad from Thresher Maw venom, what's the point?  Sounds about right for a survivor's guilt-ridden Shep. Oh, and it actually fits with the default Shep.

Come to think of it, Miranda probably would have issues over Shep voluntarily turning away from such a natural gift, Hey, some non Cerberus-related drama for a change.

EDIT:

Re: Short AR bursts?

ME1 or ME2? Or both?

Shepard is a biotic no matter what in lore. Gameplay is diffrent then lore. Thats why Shepard uses a AR in alot of cut scenes, In lore, he is a skilled fighter, good at technical stuff and is a Biotic. All the class's do is let you focus on one of those skills too use or pick a hybrid class.

Huh. Wasn't sure it was a bug or intentional.  Thanks for the clarification.

Respectfully disagreeing on this one.

Cut scenes are meant to be closer to lore than gameplay, aren't they?

Shep doesn't use biotics in cut scenes. That Omni-tool 101 stunt on Freedom's Progress hardly makes him/her a specialst. Somewhat telling imo. If they'd wanted to pimp Shep as a biotic god/goddess, they would've given him/her some cut scenes a la Miranda, Jack or Samara.

From what we do see, I can't help but get the feeling that Shep names his/her guns.

Sure. Debating over whether Soldier Shep is awesome or *really* awesome is somewhat of a moot point, I guess.

Okay. This one is actually why I put Miranda on the border between Lawful Neutral and Lawful Evil at the start of the game. (Endgame Miranda is True Neutral. Not that she's not more complex than that)

She wanted to put a control chip in Shep's head. I prize free will very highly. It's our capacity for moral choice that makes us human. I find the fact that Miranda wanted to interfere with that pretty repulsive.

She is all about the mission.  Shep was already dead and if they were going to go through all the trouble to bring him back they might as well make sure he is not going to betray them.  From a mission standpoint it makes sense.

Totally repulsive. Yes, yes and some more yes. Still a smart move, though.

But then again, I llke the idea of Sole Survivor Paragon Shep being a totally depressed, arguably ineffective and uncooperative jerk during the first few missions, lol.

It would make sense for Shep to have some sort of knee-jerk reaction after her admission and completely f**k the recruitment missions' order out of spite. Like, say, recruiting the crazies before going to Omega just so he'd have someone in his corner if he had to go violent on Miranda and Jacob.

Keep in mind, this isn't even to validate or excuse Miranda's proposal. I just *really* like the of Shep not getting his act together before Garrus' near-death experience. It really should've been a good call to assume that Shep wouldn't get his mojo back on overnight. I know, I know, it's a shooter, but Shep seemed to come to terms with the situation waaayyy too fast, lol.

Ok I will be using my game as the argument for this. Miri does respect Shepards abilties, it's his motives that concern her. TIM is all about taking chances, he thought Shepard would hand the base to him, well that turned out to be false as I blew the base to hell. Now as the game goes on, Miri in turn comes to respect not just Shepads abilties, but him a human and in my case fell in "love" with him. Not only did Shepard help her with Oriana, a big factor on why she is loyal to Shepard, but as you pick up more people, it becomes clear that Shepard has something about him that people will follow him to hell itself.

So at the start, she had alot of concerns, so her putting a control chip in Shepards head is not realy evil. I might not like it but she was scared for Cerberus. I bet if we had the choice to ask Miri if she would put a control chip in your head now, I highly doubt she will say yes.
