I still like her with Shep. I just have to work a little harder to make him interesting and not have him fixing all her problems while he never needs help himself. I have no patience for Marty Stu Shepard. Mine's still a great soldier and commander, but he does have those "serious emotional scars" and he has screwed up more than once. I like him that way.

I still think we should have been able to bring someone with you to Shepards personal mission in ME2.

Thane = Yes. Thane, like Miranda, has his own unique ethical system. We give Miranda a hard time because she's unethical, but Thane gets a pass from most people because he has a different ontological worldview! No way. For me, I have to either condemn both or accept both, and I choose accept.

I agree Thane shouldn't get a free pass just because he sees the world differently. But I wouldn't pair him with Miranda. His worldview would drive her crazy, and he's not human. That *is* a factor, in an even remotely plausible universe, and where I have the chance, I won't add to the silliness, not even in my imagination.

And of course I like Shepard for her best as well. It's just there are games where I play a femShep, and I like Miranda just as much in these games, so why not imagine her with someone else. After Niket's death she can do with a new close relationship, whether it's romantic or not.

So, I'm ending this quiet day on the forum. Good night.

What personal mission? Or do you mean that you wished there was one? I'd like that, especially if your LI had special dialogue.

* stands by her photographer!Shep who was something of a Casanova* Pity there's not more options for harmless flirting.

The crashed Normandy is Shepards personal mission.

I agree with the second half of Ieldra's post. I have games where I've romanced Thane, Garrus, and Tali, stayed faithful to Kaidan or Liara, or where my character concept just didn't suit Miranda. She shouldn't be alone just because Shep is unavailable. And pairing her with others is a fun exercise for me.

Don't pair her with Jacob

I thought about it. He'd have to grow up a bit and actually commit to something, and he'd have to tone down the pickup lines. But I don't regard Miranda/Jacob with the moral horror some people here seem to. I've always had a weakness for unrequited love. They clearly care for one another on some level. We don't know why it didn't work the first time, so who knows if it would be worth making another go of it.

Well we know it was Miri who dumped him, if you press on the subject he is very bitter and pissed off.  Also remember how she tries to push Shepard away, she does not like getting into entanglemnts on a mission. Thats the sort of person she is.

I know, although he struck me as more "still has feelings for the ex" than bitter. I always imagined the relationship fell apart because of the combination of her being his boss and him looking to her to provide him with a sense of purpose. That's why I said he would need to mature a bit.

Leads to an interesting question, though: what does she see in Shepherd? Why does she let him past her rather considerable emotional barriers?

We know she respects the hell out of him and in some cases does have alot of feelings for him, I think her pushing away Shepard was so that Shepard was not distracted. Also if you say dammit your riught, he does say maybe when the mission is over we can. Something around those lines. It's made clear they both have strong feelings for each other.

Jacob is a nice guy, but as alluded to by both Samara and Jack, he doesn't know what he wants. He's an idealist but doesn't seem to truly comprehend the cost of that idealism, which in the end just makes him a good soldier - willing to fight for a cause he believes in but unaware of what that may entail. Shepherd and Miranda are idealists too, but Miranda is aware of what that means and has been willing to do some morally questionable things in the past to achieve a greater good. Shepherd is different from Jacob in that I think he's obviously lost a lot to his idealism and like Miranda, is aware that idealism has its price and yet is willing to pay it. In the case of a paragon Shepherd, his taking the more difficult moral high road is the price he pays for his idealism and he is aware of it. A renegade Shepherd pays the price with little pieces of his soul every time he takes a callous or ruthless action but he does it because he feels there is no other way (unless your renegade Shepherd is a psychopath, which I doubt Miranda would fall for).

I see Miranda as someone who has brief moments hwere she lets people in, before shutting them down.  Like where she puts her hand on Shep's chest before backing off, which gets him to react in various "push down the barrier" ways if you decide to keep romancing her.

Yeah. Ieldra most savage me for this in the morning, but I think she's a bit lonely ( and I'm not talking about being single). I think she really wants someone she can count on and serve as an equal, and people like Jacob and Shepard look strong enough to be tempting. On the other hand, if she chooses wrongly, that friend or lover will become just another person who can break her heart. And there's nothing she fears more than having her heart broken. Once again, I'm not talking about romance. Platonic love would serve just as well.

Where is everyone? Ah, well, if I'm all alone, that I can afford to be shocking. I'm working on a fic that's looking like it's going to have distinct Miranda/Gianna overtones, though it's mostly about Kelly asking Miranda entirely too many personal questions and Miranda explaining that she prefers to keep her romantic life private.

Considering the usage of romantic life, does not appear to be.

I don't really get much out of Gianna.  She helped me in ME1, and then I helped her (main Shep)/ betrayed her (renegade Shep) in ME2.  So I don't really feel much to go on.  How do you characterize her?

Not much more than what's in the game since her part will be small: tough, competent, and no nonsense. Miranda likes her. Definitely her type, though nothing comes of it.
