I've been playing a default Shep in ME2 (can't seem to play ME for more than ten minutes at a time) and Miranda is *cold* in the prologue. I think you were really supposed to despise her until her loyalty mission. I failed miserably.

I started to not dislike her during the talks up to the loyalty mission, she starts to act civil and respectful once you do Freedom's Progress.

I also liked her from the first. Even when she said she would've put a control chip in Shepard's head. And when she said she didn't need a friend. It didn't put me off, but made her more interesting, because she's completely her own character with her own strong presence there.jtav wrote...

The possibility of a backstab was present in my mind as well, though I didn't really expect it. That also made her more interesting - about the same way, btw, you cannot be sure of Morrigan in DAO.

I guess I rarely find characters I expect to betray me likeable
Well ok that isn't true at all, but she lacked the requisite rogueish charm.

Morning. I for one am grateful for the lack of OT. My poor dial-up.
So I'm not the only one! I was beginning to think I was alone out here on the fringes of civilization...
But anyway. I've heard the bit about anticipating Miri's betrayal before, which is interesting - I didn't get that sense at all, though in retrospect I can see how one could. So how about a little survey: what, in 500 characters or less, was your initial impression of Miranda Lawson?
I'll go first: efficient, businesslike, and loyal to a fault (this is based purely on the game, mind; I didn't see any of the promo material). Possibly a bit deluded as regards Cerberus' altruism. Something of a stick up her arse, but too defensive to make me believe it represented the real her. Someone it seemed worth getting to know.
Right, who's next?

I figured as long as Cerberus' and Shep's interests were aligned she would be useful but at some point I was going to go against what TIM wanted and I just presumed she would side with Cerberus. She was sold to us as a Loyalist after all.

I never really bought into the loyalist thing at first. I guess mostly because Bioware's characters are generally deeper than they appear at first glance. Initially I found her to be kind of what Jack refers to her as, 'a Cerberus cheerleader". But of coarse she won me over in the end.

I'll give it a shot...
Relentless, driven, utterly ruthless in pursuing her goals. Idealistic but in a twisted kind of way. True believer in Cerberus. Very guarded. In summary, intriguing.
Ugh... sorry, just finished two final exams and the words just aren't flowing right now.

Infiltrator, Spacer. Heavy stubble, shaved head - he's beginning to go bald and is a bit self-conscious, so it seems like the most elegant solution. Decent looking, verging on handsome in a rugged sort of way.
Personality I've already posted a bit on, but to reiterate: Ruthless Paragon suffering survivor's guilt compounded by the fact that it really is his fault, commendations be damned. He tries to keep it to himself and not to let it control his life, though the degree of success varies from day to day. As talented a soldier as he is, he might have been much happier had he not decided to go into the family business. Or maybe not. "If wishes were horses we'd all be eating steak", as his slightly dotty drill sergeant used to say. In spite of his Paragon leanings, he can be a bit callous and even manipulative at times - a side effect of trying not to feel too much.
That answer your question?
Incidentally, did anyone else see Chuck vs. the Honeymooners earlier tonight? Fantastic episode. Anyone here that doesn't watch Chuck already, do so. Seriously. The safety of the galaxy is at stake.

I kept the default name because John just seems like such a neutral name to me - I feel you can attach pretty much any kind of personality to it. Colonist, Ruthless, Renegade. He grew his hair out a little bit in ME1 for the same reason special forces in the real world do (military discipline is often a little looser regarding appearances in elite military units and the more casual appearance allows them to blend in more easily) but got it cut back down in ME2 courtesy of the Lazarus Project (he's not too happy with TIM for that). Heavy stubble, blue-grey eyes, would be somewhat handsome if he smiled more often and lightened some of his battle scars with some cosmetic surgery but he's got too much on his mind to worry about appearances (I incorporated the renegade scars from ME2 into his backstory - they're not a side effect of the reconstruction but rather old battle scars resurfacing due to the dermal resurfacing of the Lazarus Project being cut short).
Personality wise, he's a renegade but if there's a way to avoid causing too much collateral damage or do some good, he'll attempt it provided it doesn't interfere with the mission. Seeing his parents butchered at Mindoir has had a serious effect on him - he promised himself he would never allow others to see him in his weak moments and he enlisted so he could prevent others from going through the trauma he did. Despite his ruthless reputation, he feels personally responsible for the loss of every man killed under his command but hides these emotional scars for the sake of fulfilling his missions and so as to present a strong image to his men. Regrets the heavy casualties at Torfan but given a chance to do it again, would make the exact same decisions because he feels they were necessary. Is more willing to fraternize with his subordinates than someone like Miranda, but is slow to truly open up for the reasons I listed before.
In a lot of ways, my Shepherd is a lot like Miranda which probably explains why I took an immediate liking to her character. That, and she's voiced by and based on Yvonne Strahovski from Chuck

Detached, cool, professional. Supremely competent in most things she puts her mind to. Unruffled by provocations. Has a one-sided image of Cerberus but isn't mindlessly loyal because she can think for herself. Independent, tries to rely only on herself. Someone I could respect, both as friend and adversary, if it had turned out that way.icarus414 wrote...

In fact, I think a good story could have come out of having a romance with her, followed by a betrayal. Having considered the possibility, I think I would not have been annoyed or enraged so much as saddened. And I would have found the romance worth it even in the face of what was bound to happen.

Continuing my default Shep speed run, and being as cruel to Miranda as I can this time. Feels awful, and the fact that this playthrough is just so I can refresh my memory on some of Thane's dialogue and try to get back in an ME mood doesn't help.
You being cruel to Miranda? Why I never!

I know the feeling. Default Shepard doesn't look bad, but my image of him is just too tainted by this video. So default Shepard is Not My Shepard. But I don't really have a default one of my own. I have three maleSheps so far, the one I like most is this one:fongiel24 wrote...
Just out of curiosity, what kind of Shepherd do you guys have as your "default"? I used a customized face in ME1 which I imported into ME2 and I've never been able to use the default face since because "my" Shepherd has become my "default". Whenever I see the real default Shepherd in gameplay videos people post, my mind just screams "Imposter!"
Civilian:

On mission

He also looks very nice with Miranda IMO - whenever I see *that* picture with default Shep, I cry "impostor" in my mind. Somehow I always manage to mentally fix it whenever I look at this thread's OP.

I know many people have trouble making good-looking maleSheps, but I really like this one - made without any imported face code btw. His personality is also the closest to how I would imagine myself in a similar role, which means he does match Miranda in certain key personality traits. He's Earthborn and a Sole Survivor, the latter because War Hero didn't fit and Ruthless would be too Renegade together with Earthborn. I only wish we hard more hair options - this one and bald are the only hairstyles I can stand.

personally the brain-implant suggestion did make me very suspicious at first, but once you do freedom's progress and you're more familiar with both miranda and jacob, the progression is quite natural.
edit: it's funny, looking at people's custom shep's always makes me think "who's that dude (normally) with the funny hair/face?" yours ain't too bad, overall, Ieldra.

Course I think the person I based this Shep on is perfect for Miranda.
Jack isn't my most renegade Shep though I don't think, nope that title probably falls to Richard Shepard

He is a super flirty Shep, LIed Ash in ME and will LI Jack in ME2 after getting a cheeky kiss from Miranda (as well no doubt as some of the NPCs encountered during the game hehe)
Going back to an earlier discussion, for me I don't think there is anyone that we've seen that Miranda would be an LI for other than Shepard. I just can't see her to some extent 'lowering' her standards and so I only see Shep as meeting that level.

When he says "I'm definitely interested" to Miranda in the last romance conversation, that, combined with his smile, is the very definition of "creepy". I can't recall if my Shepard looks better in that scene, but default Shepard...*shudder*.Collider wrote...
I prefer custom shepards, if not only for the better animations. Sheploo can look outright creepy, insane, angry, or ridiculous. I got only one goofy smile from my custom Shepard in ME2, but looking at some videos of Sheploo in ME2, Sheploo seems to have some problems with his facial expressions.

Sheploo is definitely creepy. Don't ask me why I use him as my icon, I think I earned it or something...

oh that one's not bad, the worst is the full-smile he does at one-point, which is ridiculously creepy, mainly because they didn't animate the rest of his face when they did it, so it comes across totally unnaturally....
given they all the have same animations, i expect all sheps have their less-than-flattering moments...
btw some Yvonne news: according to a news article here she might well be in a new thriller movie "the killer elite" with jason statham and clive owen. story has also been reported here.
