Thats why I love Miri and Jacks romance. They have barriers set up. You need to work to get them to care for you, where Garrus and Talialready have strong feelings for you and Thane, well Thane is Thane. Jacob tho is utter crap. Miri reminds me alot of Sarah Walker. Ironicly Yvonne plays her too.

I've never played Jack's romance. Interesting character, but she really rubs me the wrong way. Too emotionally immature and there's just too much damage there for a relationship to ever end well. It'd feel like babysitting half the time.

I found her romance very well done and her scene made go "holy sh*t" only romance scene from Bioware to ever make me do that. It just hit me.

There isn't enough Miranda discussion going on.

So how many of you guys went into the game thinking you'd like Miranda?

I did, even before she was anounced as a li. Their was something about her... she seemed like an apology from Bioware for some people in mass effect 1 that will remain name less. She seems to fit with almost any winner type male/shepard. The heroine in shepard's corner (yes thats a play on words).

You've lost me. An apology for what people that will remain nameless?

Just finished up Kasumi's loyalty mission recently.

Was really hoping for the option to bring your current LI to the party. The potential banter between you two and the rich elitists would have been awesome.

Or maybe I just wanted to see Miranda assisting in infiltrating the hideout in a fancy black dress...

That would be awesome. It would be just like on Chuck, only with Shepherd taking Chuck's role (last Chuck reference from me for today).

That DLC was hard though. I got so used to have Miranda's warp and overload that suddenly having only Kasumi there made it really challenging.

Yeah, that mission just had "Spy setting" written all over it, and (an LI) Miri would have been a perfect companion for it.

Luckily I was a sentinel my first visit, so I had both those powers
covered. And the Locust really helped there too.

As for going into the game, I had a feeling she'd be the one I'd enjoy romancing the most, everything seemed perfect about her. My hunch was correct too.

Just doing a playthrough for research and thought of something.

Anybody else find it weird that usually when you get a new crewmember, it's armory chief Jacob that does the introductions, and not Miranda, your XO? Considering the XO is usually responsible for personnel and the day-to-day running of the ship, why does Miranda spend most of the game cooped up in her office?

Miranda does some, too (telling Jack that "on this ship, we follow orders!").

But it does skew pretty heavily towards Jacob. It's a pity Jacob's distrust of Thane didn't go anywhere.

Miranda is the kind of boss who always hides in her office with the doors closed and you have no real idea what she actually does.

It's cuz if Jacob wasn't the Normandy greeter he'd be nothing. They had to do something with him. All he does is sit in the armory with his tight pants doing... something.

Besides, Jacob is more personable than Miranda, in his way.

Miri is a busy woman, after every mission she has to write a report, send it to TIM, keep an eye on Shepard and so on. Jacob just does nopthing. He just sits on the ship, never take him out expect for his personal quest.

This could have had real potential. We could find out why Jacob distrusts mercenaries so much, maybe find out more of his personal history.

This seems the most likely. I just would have thought Miranda would want to be there to greet each new member since she's supposed to be overseeing the mission.

When I started playing Mass Effect 2, I couldn't wait to romance Tali. Miranda sounded like a Cerberus **** to me with no personality. People would just romance her for her looks.
She's the first person you see in this game and her body gets a lot of attention in the cutscenes throughout the game.
However, after a while she started to change. Our conversations became more personal and she revealed little bits of information about herself. She asked me for a favor, to track down her sister, and that was one of the best loyalty missions in this game imo. It was really nice to see that there was a person behind all this. The conversations that followed were also great.
There are only three reasons why I still prefer Tali:
1) The sex scene with Miranda. Come on, in the engineering room?! At least with Tali you get an emotional, romantic scene.
2) Some of her comments. Especially: "you can admire my body if you want". Goes hand-in-hand with the sex scene. I don't care about her body! Sure, it looks nice but it's personality that matters. I initially disliked her because of her body but that changed when I learned more about Miranda as a person.
3) The way she smiles all the time. Nothing wrong with that, unless we're in a suicide mission and have a strong chance of dying. Even during the final speech she's smiling. If this would be real, Shepard would tell her to focus on the mission and stop laughing.
Hopefully you can learn a bit more about her personality in ME3 and hopefully things will evolve a bit (more romantic, a romance scene in the captain's quarters instead of the engineering room).
If that's true, Miranda might just become my favorite LI .

Really great post bas, cool to know your thoughts. So...

1.) The engine room is a hot topic, it seems to inspire great reaction in people. I personally didn't think much of it
beyond being slightly intrigued. I cared more about the lack of dialogue in the scene.

2.) I absolutely never say the line that triggers the "and maybe I wouldn't mind you admiring my body" thing. Not only is it kind of ech, it means you miss out on the kiss scene because you didn't accuse her of being jealous.

3.) Smiling all the time?? I never noticed that.

I hope you do come to like Miranda more. When I was first playing as male Shep my conflict was between Jack and Miranda; I couldn't decide which. Tali never really entered into it for me. I couldn't say why.

Never really thought about it again until you brought this up bas, but I remember this bothering me a bit. Her "default" expression does look a little too cheerful at times.

Yeah, I'm totally not getting you guys at all on this. I never noticed anything like that. Miranda is a cold character, I never got the impression she was grinning all the time.

The only time I really can say she smiled was while saying Niket was one of her oldest and most trusted friends on the elevator, and then again after she'd spoken to Oriana.

This is a controversial scene. People give various reasons for liking or disliking it. As a rule, I don't mind sex in strange locations, but I'm not the only one who would have preferred a scene in Miranda's room with the window looking out into space as the background. What I like about the scene is the mood of barely restrained passion. Tali's scene is nice and emotional, but Miranda's has to be a bit less tame.

2) Some of her comments. Especially: "you can admire my body if you want". Goes hand-in-hand with the sex scene. I don't care about her body! Sure, it looks nice but it's personality that matters. I initially disliked her because of her body but that changed when I learned more about Miranda as a person.

I like that she's beautiful, and don't tell me you don't! Don't tell me you wouldn't care if she was ugly, because I wouldn't believe you. It's not sufficient to like her, yes, but it does matter.
As for that line, I tend to avoid it, because the alternative "you're jealous" path gives you the kiss and the classic "stop smiing, damn it".

3) The way she smiles all the time. Nothing wrong with that, unless we're in a suicide mission and have a strong chance of dying. Even during the final speech she's smiling. If this would be real, Shepard would tell her to focus on the mission and stop laughing.

Hmm. Didn't notice that.

Hopefully you can learn a bit more about her personality in ME3 and hopefully things will evolve a bit (more romantic, a romance scene in the captain's quarters instead of the engineering room).

We all hope the romance will continue and we'll learn more about Miranda, and a scene in her room would be very desirable. The Captain's quarters, well, the room is nice but a bit boring. A window would help.

It's not really a full blown smile, just a little hint of a grin sometimes. I'll try to do a screencap when I get a chance.

It just looked really weird in my playthrough because my custom Shepherd's "default" face is a scowl (I'm not sure if all MSheps default to that) and most of the other characters generally look pretty serious as well.

But yeah, being a Paragon gets you out of it. (Or Renegade.) I actually like how Paragon or Renegade is tied directly to your persuasion score. If you're very high Paragon, you're a Captain America or Mother Theresa type who just inspires everyone through righteousness...and with very high renegade, everyone knows that they shouldn't mess with you.

As a rule, this is one thing I don't like. I don't like being forced to be a Paragon all (or even most) of the time just because most of my earlier decisions went that way. I want to be Paragon at one time (Miranda/Jack) and Renegade at others (Tali's loyalty mission, from the second choice in the trial to the trial's conclusion). I want to tell Kelham "I'm a Spectre, so talk" even if I've had few Renegade actions before.
The game doesn't make it too hard to get the best of both worlds in almost all situations, but you have to juggle the numbers and play the missions in a certain sequence, or you'll have important situations where you can't be what you want to be - and that sucks.

I look at it as a social skills sort of thing.  If you practice taking these noble, charming ways of doing things, you get really good at it.  If you practice taking assertive "shut your mouth" actions, you get really good at that.  It's like a different sort of experience points.

Then it would be nice to be able to put points into this "skill" manually. OK, you can always use the Death Mask, but that hides your face and looks silly, so I can't make myself believe it can really give a negotiation bonus.  As it is, I must carefully balance my Paragon and Renegade points to make sure I can act as I want to. Playing for the numbers - that's what I dislike most in RPGs, and why I prefer advancement by point allocation to advancement by practice. At least it's fortunate that my preferred actions in ME2 (as opposed to ME1) result in a balance of P/G with a slight favor for P, so I have no problems with my two "main" Shepards.
