Really great post bas, cool to know your thoughts. So...

1.) The engine room is a hot topic, it seems to inspire great reaction in people. I personally didn't think much of it
beyond being slightly intrigued. I cared more about the lack of dialogue in the scene.

2.) I absolutely never say the line that triggers the "and maybe I wouldn't mind you admiring my body" thing. Not only is it kind of ech, it means you miss out on the kiss scene because you didn't accuse her of being jealous.

3.) Smiling all the time?? I never noticed that.

I hope you do come to like Miranda more. When I was first playing as male Shep my conflict was between Jack and Miranda; I couldn't decide which. Tali never really entered into it for me. I couldn't say why.

Thanks :) I didn't know that there was a kiss scene! Gonna start a new playthrough right away, haha!
It's more grinning than smiling I guess. I chose Miranda and Tali as my squadmates for the suicide mission and during the final speech, she just grinned and said: "Let's go." That felt really out of place. Like she is secretly a Collector herself and was going to betray you.
I don't like the engine room romance scene for a couple of reasons. Reason 1: Miranda is on top :D. That doesn't feel right.
And it's just about sex. I thought she loved me. She made that clear in our conversations. If this would be a casual sex scene (like with Jack), I wouldn't mind but this is the only romance scene you get in this game with Miranda.
The romance scenes are just way too short. Again, I don't want nudity or anything but they could be a bit more romantic. More interaction (as in: a conversation) before and after 'the deed'.

I like that she's beautiful, and don't tell me you don't! Don't tell
me you wouldn't care if she was ugly, because I wouldn't believe you.
It's not sufficient to like her, yes, but it does matter.
As for
that line, I tend to avoid it, because the alternative "you're jealous"
path gives you the kiss and the classic "stop smiing, damn it".

Well, I'm male so yes sometimes I look at her  I find her body a bit 'too much' but it's not unpleasant to look at. But especially in videogames I think personality is much more important so that's why I romanced Tali first.
You guys have convinced me to romance Miranda ;). I like her a lot more now, I'm even going to put that image in my signature that I want her as a squadmate, haha.
Shall I romance her with a Paragon Shep or a Renegade Shep? I can't choose... I can go Paragon and be nice to her or go Renegade, adore Cerberus and do everything the Illusive Man wants.

*whisper* I think all the Talimancers are gone. I've been thinking, not to offend any of the Tali lovers, but I think Tali is a groupie type character. If you look up the definition it perfectly fits her more then any one other character.

Eh, Tali's not a groupie. Just young and a bit dazzled. She's in my top 3 favorite female characters of ME.

Right, and Jack is a devote nun.

Most groupies are young and dazzled.

Dont get wrong I like Tali in me 1,but in me 2 she's a groupie a yes girl period.

Please don't start flaming Tali here, this is a looooove thread. =)

Note: I'm aware you aren't flaming right now, but you seem to be getting close so it seemed worth reminding everyone.

Right different topic. Has anyone noticed in the Mass Effect human history the pre- national socialist  history references after the first contact war.

The only problem I have with the engine room scene is the timing. The scene gets a little creepy once you realize there are no people there, not because Miranda cleared the room, but because they've all been kidnapped. Way to ruin the mood. I would have also made the "promise me" dialogue immediately precede the sex scene proper, but that's my own preference.

I do not understand why the sex scene has to take place right before the suicide mission.  It sorta made sense in ME1, because once you have stolen your own ship who cares about fraternization regulations?  But this time you are involved in a civilian operation, granted it is quasi-military but still.  Why the wait?  And further more shouldn't Shep and his first officer be planning for the operation they are going to begin in less than two hours rather than taking time off to relax...or other things?

The sex scene should happen...you know...whenever it feels right in the relationship.  The convention from ME1 doesn't have to be followed.

Well, if you
recruited Tali then she did clear the engine room of someone [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/happy.png[/smilie]

As for the LI scene, I think the key thing for it this time is that all things are pretty much in check and Joker is going to alert you once you get to the relay... (just like he interupted the ME LI scene)

The way I see the ME2 one is that it is having one last 'night' as it were of something good (as is commented on in a couple of the other romances) before potentially going to your death.

Just like others have stated, it is most likely going to be the same situation again in ME3, the trouble is I think even for a new LI that will be a cliche if it is done again and for a current LI just outright crazy if it follows the same style of approach.

Not sure if we've discussed this before but did anyone else find the "Who said anything about love, I just want to get in bed with you" line a bit poor? I think I know why it was used so it could allow people to choose themselves if it was just a 'one night stand' or something, but I think it could've been worded better leaving it still open for interpretation.

I can accept that trope because I think many would feel that way. But...

That line was so clearly a joke to lighten the mood that I can't imagine how people can take it seriously. If they had intended a different interpretation, they should've phrased it differently.

I'm thinking of subverting that line a bit in a fanfic. Shepard takes a bullet for her during a mission and is wounded. Later, in medbay:

Miranda: Idiot! You could have been killed. What were you thinking?

Shep: Eh, I thought it would up my chances if getting you into bed. (winces in pain) Did it work?

Miranda: You ass.

There are lines recorded on the disc for F/F Miranda romance. Just thought I'd let people know.

Really? I would have liked it very much if she were a bisexual option for a number of reasons.

Yes, I just heard where femShep talks to Mordin about Miranda and that "what they do privately is not Mordin's business."

Considering I already have no problem thinking of and writing her as bisexual, it's not about fanfic. I prefer FemSheps and I'd like a gay/bisexual option the devs couldn't try to weasel out of. Who better than the beautiful "leading lady" poster character?

Agreed, Ieldra. I still can't understand how so many people fail to see that Shepard was trying to cheer Miranda up by making light of the conversation. And if there was any doubt, her reply makes it clear she got the joke. After that they both get serious again, and the difference in tone is obvious.

EDIT: @jtav: That mod of their exchange you came up with is great. You should definitely use it in one of your fics.

I don't know if I would've liked it. Actually, I fear I might have liked it so much that I'd have romanced Miranda in every game, instead of only half of them. And with my favorite character, my femShep Engineer as well.

Yes, I would have liked it very much.

To the 2nd, technically I guess it would just be 2nd time for each particular LI but yeah, there needs to be something different for people going into ME3 with a current LI. To some extent I can see the reason for doing it for new LIs but I just think it would just be too cheesy if it basically follows the same format as the previous 2 even for a new LI.

To the 3rd, yeah forgot about the 'You arse!' comment Miranda makes directly after Shep says that line and I like Jtav's idea for phrasing it into a fanfic hehe

One thing that is most likely to remain the same as the previous 2 is the prologue sequence. No not the ship getting blown up. But basically Shep + new squadmate + red shirt-new squadmate or returning one.

My 2 theories for the start is either on Omega with Aria being a 'new squadmate' after Omega gets destroyed and one of her 2 guards being the red shirt and one of Shep's surviving squadmates being the 'returning squadmate'. Second one being that Shep heads to the Citadel to confront the council with the evidence you saw him looking at, at the end of ME2. Council puts him under arrest for working with terrorists. Whilst in council chamber, Citadel comes under attack, Shep + guard + surviving squadmate make their way through place, guard gets killed and replaced by.... Anderson :wizard: who decides despite what he said in ME2 he has had enough of the Council and he is going to help Shep fight the Reapers.

One other thing I noticed today that I hadn't before which truly destroys my thoughts/theory of Miri dad being Shadow Broker. Miranda states that her Dad would never try going up against TIM after Oriana is moved again. So he can't be the SB as I doubt SB would fear TIM so much.

I always thought it was a joke, but I never chose this line. I don't like it because I think the conversation has to be serious.
I always choose : "It doesn't matter. What matters is how we feel."

@Collider: I remember something where one of the devs tried to backpedal on Liara by claiming asari weren't really female. That angered me considerably even though I don't like her romance. Been determined to write some Miranda femmeslash ever since and I like to think of her as bisexual in any case.

@Ieldra: You say that like it's a bad thing. I actually thought you'd be more disapproving. My apologies.

I don't think it was one of the developers. Pretty sure it was one of the PR people. On one hand you have a PR person saying it's not F/F/, but then on the other hand you have developers on the forum saying that Bioware considers femShep and Liara to be a lesbian F/F romance. They can't backpedal about Kelly of course.

It was pretty stupid, but I wasn't really surprised. The BestBuy chat where the PR person said it was moderated by BestBuy people to delete any questions made by users about homosexual content. the Moderators probably didn't know what F/F means, so when that question came up the PR person probably tried to backpedal in context of BestBuy not wanting the chat being about homosexual content. The PR person also mixed up Liara with Tali, so he didn't really now what he was talking about entirely, anyway.
