That looks very...right, for some strange reason. Well, excluding Jacob of course. :P

Oh, dear, have I started something, and we're actually having Thane/Miranda discussion? I can live with that.

It's not the approach I'm taking, but it could be done that way. Everybody tries to keep it "friends with benefits" for their emotional health. Especially if you buy the theory that Jacob pushing for something serious led to the break up.

I think Miri would be attracted to Thane, simply because how he is. I am really looking forward to the Miri/Thane thing.

I'm not so sure. They are very different. And he's not human. But at least they would have something to talk about that's not exhausted in a few days. Interest, yes. Deep friendship, yes. But attraction? Hmm.

Ment personalite. In many ways, Thane is subtle and not a utter moron like Shepard :P Thane, like miri knows what they want and how to get it. Maybe I am just reading too much into it :pinched:

Objection: my Shepards are not utter morons. Miranda would not be attracted to them if they were.
The game doesn't let me play them subtle, but there are enough blanks so you can imagine your Shepard more intelligent, and you can always make intelligent decisions. Well, almost always - in the end we only have the choice between two dumb alternatives, but that's not Shepard's fault.

Regarding Thane, the question is how much his spirituality would bother Miranda, or her lack of it would bother him. It's so very different from her own outlook. I think she might find it interesting to explore as an intellectual exercise, but taking it seriously? Probably not. I imagine they could have an affair in spite of the difference, but there might be long-term difficulties. Or maybe not, since he's doomed to die anyway.

Well sometimes Shepard can act like a mron and he`s not subtle. As for Thane, I just think it would be very intresting. I don`t beleive miri hates alien at all.

it's not a matter of hate. People here tend to treat species as a metaphor for race, but really it isn't. Individuals of different species are, as a rule, not attracted to each other, not because of cultural or racial prejudice, but because of fundamental biological incompatibility that affects every sense and feature used as a trigger for sexual attraction. Non-sexual love, as opposed to that, is a function of any social species. So, it's easy to believe that Miranda and Thane would have a deep friendship, but not nearly as easy to believe they'd have a romance.

Of course, you can always ignore the differences and retcon the species' heritage into compatibility with humans. That would mean something or someone would have to have influenced their evolution to keep them compatible in the past 500000 years or so, for without it even two identical populations of one species would split into two species once separated in that timeframe, destroying all reproductive compatibility and by that, most potential for sexual attraction.

I might be branded a heretic, but somehow, he adds to the style in this picture. Perhaps we should pretend it's some random guy...

Quiet as usual at this time of the day. I'm lurking, but don't have anything to say right now. And there are pictures enough.

Anyone care to brief me on the whole Miranda/Thane debate? Too lazy to go through the previous pages, and I'm supposed to be studying shortly anyway. >_<"

Basically, I've gotten it into my head to write a Miranda/Thane fanfic and seemed to have sparked a discussion on how plausible it would be. The biggest issue is the xenophilia. I actually agree with Ieldra here. If we took biology seriously at all, they shouldn't be sexually attracted to one another. Fortunately/unfortunately, the game is full of so much complete nonsense when it comes to biology, including having half the LIs be alien, that I feel justified in handwaving it.

In that case, jtav, I say enjoy what you're doing and forget about biology. If you pay too much attention to sensitive scientific principles while writing a casual fan-fiction story, you will probably end up losing interest. So just try to keep things as believable/understandable as possible and continue on with the story. It's not really worth all the frustration.

I dunno, it's pretty difficult to nail down sexual preferences as "biology says this."  Culture and environment are huge.  That's why there are so many fetishes which exist.  People can get into anything.  If Shepard or Miranda is attracted to Thane it may just mean that she's one of a small percentage of the human population that's attracted to Drell.

I'm sorry but no. For those cultural factors to kick in, there must be a minimum of compatibility. And the ME universe treats many alien species as having this minimum (body shape, smell, compatibility of sexual organs, pheromones, mating behaviour, etc.) as a matter of fact, and attraction between species as a rule rather than an exception. That's what I can't believe. That's what needs a big, world-changing explanation. Half the LIs are non-human? Quarian females and Asari look so much like human women that human men are attracted to their body shape as a rule? Not so. Not by any stretch of plausibility.

I won't say attraction can't happen, but actual sex, that would be akin to bestiality - and I think we can agree that's a very small minority.

Ah, and while we're at it: we can have sex with aliens but no same-sex romances among humans? Don't get me started on that...
