I'm upset with you for abandoning us because:



1) I've been dying to play Heavy Rain ever since I first found out about it, but have no PS3 so it's likely that may never happen.

2) You are one of the core members of this thread! If you just up and leave us, the masses will follow. Chaos will ensue. The nation of Miranda will be in shambles... and you will be to blame.

You know I can't stay mad at you, Meg. Besides, who else would get all my FotC references? You should know I'm officially back at my PC now, Heavy Rain crashed on me...at the end of the demo level too, I hope I don't have to play it all again.

Well you guys have inspired to write for the first time in a looooooooooong time, lol. Here's a first pass on a scene from my story. It's pretty rough, basically just a framework pass... I need to clean up the dialog and make tweaks, but I figured I'd get some feedback. Rip it to shreds, I can take it!



“Miranda, I understand that you and Commander Shepard are becoming quite… how should I say it… close.”

Miranda was taken aback. She wasn’t surprised that he knew, but surprised that he would mention it. “I can assure you that regardless of any relationship the Commander and I may or may not have, it will not affect my duties” she said.

The Illusive Man held up his hand to stop her protest. “You’re my best operative. I trust that you will do whatever is necessary to complete your assignment. I’ve always trusted that you would not let personal matters interfere with our operations. However, I need to make it clear that Shepard must not be made aware of our involvement in Project Hephaestus under any circumstances.”

Miranda’s thoughts turned to the last time she had kept a secret from someone she cared for. Niket had paid for her decision with his life. “Sir, Shepard is quite resourceful. Given his access to Cerberus databases he may discover this information on his own. It may be better for him to hear it from someone who… from Cerberus directly.”

He idly tapped his cigarette on his ashtray. “I’ve taken steps to make sure the data is secure. Do you think it would be better for the mission? Or are you developing a conscience on me?”

Miranda gave no answer.

“Operative Lawson, I’m sure I don’t need to remind you of all that Cerberus has done for you. Of all that we’ve done for your sister.”

Miranda’s eyes narrowed. “You leave Orianna out of – “

“You know that I would never harm your sister in any way. Like you, she’s an example of the best and brightest humanity has to offer. I’m merely saying it would be… unfortunate if certain individuals were to learn her location.”

He paused to take a long drag on his cigarette. “Miranda, you believe in Cerberus. You believe in what we’re doing.  You know that we cannot risk any complications that could threaten the mission. And you know as well as I do that if Shepard knew the truth of Cerberus’ involvement – your involvement – in the research on Akuze, it would threaten the mission. The fate of every human being in the galaxy rests on Shepard. He cannot be compromised in any way.”

He extinguished his cigarette and drew another out of his pocket.

“Do you understand?”

“Perfectly, sir.”

“I knew that you would, Miranda. That will be all.”

Uh..that sounds like something unpleasant is heading Shepard's and Miranda's way. Well written, though. Just a few paragraphs, and already there's a level of tension quite sufficient to carry the story through a few more chapters.
