You mean Shepard? *cough*

Miranda's actually a pretty good deconstruction of Mary Sue. Designed to be perfect, but emotionally damaged because of it.

You still don't like your version of Shepard, I see.

The thing about Shepard is that his strengths and weakness are vague or no existent,it seem like yours is a Marty Stu type.

The best way to get rid of the Marty/Mary sue aspect is to roleplay your Shepard. That is what I am going to do when I do my canon playthroughs for ME3 - before hand write down the characterization of my Shepard, with his strengths and flaws. Even if I'm playing as "myself," I still want to do this in order to avoid Marty/Mary sue.

I'm not a good roleplayer in that if I'm roleplaying an interesting character in my head but the game still plays like I'm a Mary/Marty Stu, it doesn't matter.

It's not easy. But I think it can be done. The Warden wasn't very interesting either - albeit less invincible than Shepard, and I was still able to make him interesting. Give him or her flaws and quirks, make them act irrationally at times - or be coldly logical, or in between. It's not easy though, as I said, and as you said, the game portrays Shepard as rather invincible. Having us play through the origins and psych profiles and see Shepard's troubles and trials would have been a gone long way to making Shepard more interesting.

Another problem is that the Paragon/Renegade system can hamstring your choices if you don't metagame, so that you're penalized for being say, a Paragon who hates batarians and so forth.

Meh I don't even pay attention to the moral system. Joshua shepard is prettty much me, looks like me and makes decisions i would make at that time, because of this I always end up Paragade with my Paragon bar always maxed and my Renegade almost maxed. I guess I am just a good roleplayer.

With the Warden it was different. I found that character very interesting. Negating the fact that the Warden's possible backgrounds are more interesting and in depth in general, I think this might have a great deal to do with the fact that there is no acting involved with the Warden, so we can paint a lot more onto his/her character.

With Shepard, we see acting. We hear Shepard's voice, movements, expressions, etc. It's like watching an actor on tv. So to a large extent Shepard is already defined for us.

Yes. I prefer the ME1 system, but both systems suck. I don't want to be forced to be paragon to use charm, or renegade to use intimidate. I want to roleplay my character as I see fit. They should just have a persuade skill and leave it at that.

That's very true, and something I should realized. Dragon Age did exactly what I suggested for Shepard - had us play through their origins and see their suffering. I'm sure that contributed to me thinking of the Warden as more sympathetic.

I don't agree with the Shepard bit, in fact out of any character I have ever played in a video game, there is only two characters that I really feel like I am that character and roleplay that character very well, that's Link and Shepard.

I do have a character concept for my current Shep. For whatever reason, it's easier for me to create Sheps that hate Miranda.

And you wonder why I pair her with Thane and Liara.

I wish male Shepard had a different voice. I think that's what contributes to a lot of the "meh" factor for me.

He sounds better in romances and while taking renegade decisions.

I've heard that. I don't know about romances, but the first time I watched a Youtube video that depicted some renegade Shepard dialogue I was very surprised.

Unfortunately I don't play that way so I never get to hear Meer's renegade skills.

@ Valmy - Deep breaths! Relax! Breathe in and out slowly, three times. It was just a comment!

Meer improved in ME2. I don't really have a problem with his voice. There are some lines that could have been better (and/or written better), but that is the case with Hale as well.

I thought Meer did a better job then Hale in ME2, I remember when I did the suicide mission Meer did a fantastic job, I listen to Hale and I was

I just got into these Hale/Meer debates way back in 2007 and 2008 and now they fill me with fear and terror.

I did find Hale better in ME, but in ME2 i think the reason why Meer got alot of praise was because he just improved so much.

He played ME1 to get ready to play Shepard in ME2 and it really showed.  I was glad he put the effort in.

He's good at renagadel ines and the reason why is because he even said in a interview he always plays a bad guy in his first playthrough, reason why he does a fantastic job for Renagade. Paragons, he's ok, there is some lines that could be better tho.
