Doesn't sound all that bad. Subtract the marketing aspect and it's nothing more than the obvious. Regarding Miranda, it all depends on their canonical version of what did happen with her if you haven't played ME2. Giving that she's almost unkillable in ME2, I think it's a safe bet she'll have a role. How big it will be, that's anyone's guess.jtav wrote...
From the Official Xbox magazineA little known thing about Mass Effect
2 is that while everyone knows about the save game connectivity and how
well that works, I think that overshadows the fact that we really
designed Mass Effect 2 to be a good entry point for new players. So
that's why we don't give all these choices about what's happened
before.
Is that something you're planning for Mass Effect 3 as well? You want it to be another smooth entry point?
Absolutely. We like to have this continuity and its payoff, but we also
want each game to allow people to enter into the series at that point.
If you haven't played either game we still want you to be able to play
Mass Effect 3.
I've also seen reference elsewhere to each game being standalone.

I also hope that in terms of carring on the romance you get more than a few extra dialouge lines, i want propper continuation, like the rest of you no doubt.

yes, but i'm not sure how they'll reconcile the two... new people can't "continue" a relationship they never had. how will they "re-set" shep again?VampireCommando wrote...

Also what are people expencting from a part 3 of a continuing story? New people that jump into Me 3 should just get a "canon" Shep like you get with a ME 2 new game. They wouldn't know anythign about the other games to care anyway.

I don't really like that, it seems like it short changing the ones that have been there since ME 1. Because you know, all that time they spend making your choices "matter" in ME 2 from ME 1 was so amazing. (yay emails or 1-3 lines of Dialog!)

I don't like it either. BioWare is sacrificing the potential of their series to be an amazing, groundbreaking series and instead making it... well... just "really really good", by splitting things up into individual episodes. I trust in BioWare to make at least a very good game, but there's a part of me that's very concerned about how they'll handle things. I hope that they don't bring in new LIs and just make it so that you can romance existing characters.
But part of the problem is that game reviewers actually put down a game that's a trilogy! Despite how shallow many of the choices in ME felt, IGN still listed "doesn't feel complete if you haven't played ME1" as a flaw.
I think that BioWare should realize that no matter what, they won't be able to have a game series that's both a trilogy and a standalone game series and do both equally well. I'd like to see them make a choice. Do a series or do episodes (I'd like to see "make a series" be that choice, btw.)
I swear to god if I get an email from Miranda...

Tali and Miranda, yes. But Garrus? I don't doubt he'll be back if he survives, but storywise he's completely expendable, nothing of what he's involved in in ME1 or ME2 touches the main plot, except that he was involved with investigating Saren in ME1. And that's become irrelevant.Pinkflamingo22 wrote...
if miranda is not a major role in me3 i will cry. miranda garrus and tali should all be major roles the are the most importants characters as far as story.

Wait what. I love Garrus but he is not important to any major side story or the plot in anyway.

Hard to say where they'll draw the line. When you consider how they made ME2 start if you hadn't played ME1 - a number of very unpopular decisions (no romance, Wrex dead, Udina as Councilor) - I think they really wanted people to play ME1 before ME2. But yes, new LIs would feel very wrong.MrNose wrote...

Morons. But that really shouldn't matter much considering that ME2 is regarded as one of the best games of all time (or did I get that wrong?) and actually managed to make people buy a three-year-old prequel. But part of the problem is that game reviewers actually put down a game that's a trilogy! QFT!
....I'll send them a broken ME3 DVD with "Mass Effect is a trilogy: claim dismissed" written over it.I swear to god if I get an email from Miranda...

Nah, Casey said ME3 news will be coming in the next few months. I expect some ME2 news, an announcment on that upcoming thing for DAO and most likely something for the star wars MMO. I expect a ME3 teaser around this christmas or winter (like ME2) then do the big reveal at E3 2011.

If Miri doesn't have a big role in ME3, I'm gonna run and gun all the way to Edmonton lol.
As long as she is a squadmate and her romance is continued and gets good closure then I don't care. I don't want a cameo like Liara or Ash or a stupid email.
