She's technically 'Operative' Lawson in the Cerberus hierarchy, correct?

Ya but alot of times she is called miss.Lawson, wished they would call her be her proper name, Operative Lawson.

Please, people, tone down the formality. Regardless of any degrees, ranks etc. she might have, "Ms Lawson" is actually appropriate, even correct, as a form of address for most of the situations we see in the game.

I recall we've had this discussion about 1000 pages earlier.

I agree with you on this one, Ieldra. That, and it sounds better.

I want to give her a title that reflects her intelligence, her hard earned accomplishments...'Miss' doesn't cut it!  That just means she was born a female.

The use of titles reflects social regard or hierarchy. As opposed to having one, using it as a form of address has nothing do to with earned accomplishments. For that very same reason, Miranda would also not insist on being addressed with a title even where appropriate (that would tell you she values social regard or her rank in a hierarchy more than her accomplishments as such), unless she wanted to emphasize the difference in social or business rank in this particular conversation. Things are a bit different for written documents, letters, emails etc., but we don't see so much of that.

Miranda might have certain titles and ranks, but in most situations they won't be used, particularly not in informal discourse. Please also note some subtle differences in use and pronounciation (Reference).

doesn't matter what title is used: both miranda and jacob were "operative" [name] despite taylor being her immediate subordinate during the lazarus project/in the lazarus cell. given the structure of cerberus it is likely rank is not used (which is better security for higher-up members anyway) - each person knows their contacts and little else.

^^That's an excellent picture.

The artist also has very good pictures of Jacob, Thane and Jack. It's worth a look.

yes they're pretty good (it's one of the reasons, other than credit, why i always link the artists' site), i have never really liked the "oils" effect, i find the images lack subtelty in shading.

I hope this doesn't erupt into a flamewar, but I'm still mulling over the Shep/Miranda idea and I'm considering having Miranda torture a bad guy for information. Would she do that? The story is a variation on the "find the antidote" plot. Shep's catatonic thanks to a trap set by the villain, and Miranda's trying to force him to tell her how to reverse it. My initial instinct is yes because torture works more often than not in the ME universe.

I think she is capable of it, given sufficient motivation. But she'd try more subtle methods first, for instance something involving drugs. Depending on the situation, though, she might not have time for that. Anyway, I would not consider it out of character. It's an aspect of her we don't like to acknowledge, but she can be ruthless (re: control chip).

If you're looking for an easier way out, let her try what hackers call "social engineering" instead. She's very good at that IMO.

Agreed Ieldra - Miranda would try the soft approach first, especially if the information is likely to be more reliable and she has the time.

Ugh...please don't misunderstand me. Miranda would not be soft, not the "good cop" who tries to reason her subject into releasing the information. She'd intimidate and threaten her subject in an interrogation, then use truth drugs or something like it. Only she'd be sublte and inventive about it all rather than crude - which can be even more fear-inspiring. Depending on how dependable the drugs usually are, this might escalate further. Empathy with "bad guys" is not a trait I associate with Miranda in any way.

I guess I should have expounded a little more - this is what happens when you respond while at work. By soft I mean social engineering, information extraction methods that don't leave any evidence that the subject has been physically harmed, before 'hard' options i.e. information extraction that will leave marks of all sorts.

Certainly if she's Shep's LI, I don't see her empathising with the subject. She'd use whatever tools and techniques are available to her. If that means leaving the subject a drooling heap on the floor for whatever reason to get the information, then I can see her doing it without batting an eyelid and being able to get a good nights sleep that night.

Thank you guys. Torture it is. To be honest, I'm looking forward to it since it provides a nice contrast to the Miranda in the fantasy world and underscores just how hollow that fantasy is.

I feel rather strange saying this but this picture of Miranda does absolute nothing in reducing my attraction to her.

Mine either. But then, I always found "I'd kill for you" more romantic than "I'd die for you. And it seems that if I want to read a Shepard/Miranda where Miranda is still ruthless then I have to write it myself. And I get to have a dig at all the overly fluffy stories I've read. Win-win.

I hope thats sarcasm right there, and BW modeled Miri on Yvonne, and its Yvonne that voices her.

It might have something to do with the fact that they scanned Yvonne's face, so Miranda's face is near as spit exactly the same.
