Dear sweet lord, QFT!
I too like almost all the characters but it's rather annoying when their threads flare up into inter-LI flaming.

Lol. Yeah, that kind of talk starts up and you start eyeing the door. "Erm... maybe I should just leave you guys alone now... I feel very awkward..."

I just really wish people could show support for their LI without putting down someone else's. Ah well...

I like 5 out of 6, which isn't bad. Some I only like when I'm not romancing them.

Starting to believe you'll never see another story from me. Can't focus. Too many ideas.

Have faith. If you have too many ideas, throw your hands up and tell your brain it's overloading you and you refuse to work under such conditions. Don't try to force it.

I'm doing the Shepard/Miranda fight scene right now and I talk to my brain all the time over it. Sometimes before I go to bed I tell it what I need creatively, and then it's like my subconscious stews on it over night. In the morning I have the answer, ready-made. Weird. Perhaps I am crazy. But it works.

Tell me about it. Sometimes I just want to scream. And ME isn't like most fandoms. Shepard/Miranda is just as canon as Shepard/Tali is just as canon as Shepard/Liara, etc. These shipping wars make even less sense than usual.

Fight scene? Tell me more.

My brain is talking. Loudly. But I have the attention span of a Yorkshire Terrier. I have one idea I really want to do, but it amounts to a novelization of the second half of the game and it's been a while since I played the relevent sections and involves things I've never done in a story before. Add in the fact that it's Miranda/Thane and therefore my readership is approaching zero, and I start wondering why I'm bothering. (And yes, comments matter to me. The physical act of writing is time-consuming and somewhat draining, so hearing crickets chirp after I've put a couple of months of my life into something doesn't feel good. And I've got a couple of shorts I'd like to do, which also have the readership problem because Shep is nowhere to be found, but they flesh out Miranda's backstory and I want to read a nice prequel.

Well, you have to admit that can't really be helped, jtav. People interested in Miranda fanfic are going to want to see Shepard/Miranda, so you limit your reader base when you do different stuff. Of course you know you can always run ideas by me regardless of content, and I can and will always appreciate good writing, but a little piece of me still dies a bit when I find out it's not Miranda/Shepard...

And you know I only write this stuff to get it out of me. And to prove Shepard doesn't have to be boring. That's what I'm doing now - proving Shepard isn't boring. I intend to make Shepard every bit as interesting as Thane.  In my fanfic Shepard wakes up on Lazarus and escapes. He misleads and misdirects Miranda while making his way to the shuttle bay. She catches him just in time, is furious, they exchange some back and forth, and then they fight. Hard. He escapes. The story moves on from there. I'm doing the fight scene right now.

Shepard's being boring, I feel, exhibits a lack of imagination. That's what I feel like the game has when it comes to Shepard, because in the game Shepard is a bit boring. It's why you'll do Miranda/Thane and Miranda/Liara stuff but not Miranda/Shepard stuff.

Good morning, everyone. Seven hours no presence? How disappointing. But I guess there's not much left to discuss. I don't have much time today myself. But at least let me post everyone's favorite good morning greeting:

Interesting to note, though, that the Miranda group is still growing. Slowly, but it is.

ok, finally got my laptop booted up and reinstalled fraps over the weekend, didn't have time to do much in the game but wanted to take a few screenshots to test - you'll have seen all these many times, but hopefully as i work my way through the game again, i'll do some fresher ones... in the meantime:

thankfully the FRAPs overhead seems very small, though i noticed some performance decrease in the cut-scenes (that might be the frame-lock for the scenes themselves though), in-game it's thankfully very smooth on my machine with settings cranked up pretty high (weirdly game didn't recognise i have SLI though - at first i was getting a lot of stuttering - first time that's every happened).

Shepard's first thoughts would have been was that he is in heaven and sees an angel. But Wilson comes along and ruins it all.

You mean like in this old classic by ComTrav (original on page 92)

Does anyone have any theories on what Miranda was based on? I've noticed every character in Mass Effect is basted on some good movie character like Ash Williams(Evil Dead) or a random blue wall in Naked Gun.

I was agreeing with you and wanted to underscore that you weren't the first one to think so. If my answer came across as criticism, I'm sorry - it was not intended that way.

Really? Don't you think you might interpret too much into some observed similarities?

Anyway, I think Miranda may be an original creation. As original as any fictional character can ever be, at least.

Liara is not a blue wall *grumbles*

I don't think Miranda is directly based on anyone, but she fits the "hot spy" archetype very well and reminds me of Bastila.

Oh, was the random blue wall thing supposed to mean Liara?

Well that was just lost on me...

I like Liara. I wish she'd use a swear word. Once. Just once. I'd pay her to say a swear word. I want to hear her say it. In her proper, scientific, perfectly enunciated, no-contractions way of talking.

I so hope there's some Miranda-Liara content in ME3. I'd love it if they just acknowledged each other's existence.

Will have to agree to disagree on that,I don't see what you see in Liara.I'm surprised you were able to write a fiction about her, it shows you have high imagination, to write about a poorly written static character, I commend you. I mean her only personalty showing was going from one extreme to another in two stand alone games. On that note I don't get the interest Thane, maybe it's beacuse I'm not the target audience,I don't see the interest in a fish who's a dead beat dad with an interest in Taoism. If they really wanted to make him interesting to me, they would have made him a religious zealot with an interest in marxism, what would be something new.

Miranda "hot spy" not sure about spy part.

Liara is very sweet, she's just adorable. Pretty much a summation of my feelings toward her.

And I'm pretty sure you need ovaries to fully appreciate the awesomeness that is Thane.

Better character interaction is something I'm really hoping for in game 3, jtav, particularly between Liara and Miranda. It so irked me when I brought Miranda with me to the Liara meeting and they said nothing.

And it's worse if there's a Liara/Shepard kiss.

I agree Liara is very sweet. However, I believe her romance shouldn't have been so fast.

I suppose that's where fanfiction kicks in. I think all of the romances could use some improvement. I'm not really a good writer though, sadly. I do characters decently but I'm not amazing at plot.

She calls Saren a "turian bastard" in ME1. In order to hear her say it, you must not ask her about Benezia before finding a way past the barrier curtain. Then she says it when you walk up behind her.

Also, I was massively disappointed that there was no interaction between Liara and Miranda in ME2, which is especially egregious considering how their relationship developed at the end of Redemption. They became pretty well acquainted, and had a mutual respect for each other. Miranda even placed her hand on Liara's shoulder to try to comfort and reassure her.

Well even without those woman parts I think Thane is a great character. Especially that conversation in which he explains that he has some kind of perfect memory and that he can not just remember a moment but the emotion he felt at that time too. I desperately looked for the dialogue option that would express that Shepard wished he could do the same, especially in light of their likely death at the end of the mission.:(

Too bad he is useless in combat...

Seems there is much dialog between the Miranda and Liara fanbase. That is good.

Yeah, that's where fanfic kicks in. But if I'm doing that much work, I ffigure it's better to be playing around with characters I like. If I scrap everything but two lines and focus on completely different things, I'm already writing an original romance.
