EDIT: jtav brings up great points. I think that the fact that it's important that Miranda has an avatar to her traumatic childhood - her father. Cerberus is an organization, everything they did to Jack wasn't something personal. For Miranda on the other hand, everything her father did to her was personal.

@Ieldra - I see what you're getting at, however I'm trying for an everyone but Jack survives ending. Partially because I think Jack is too much of a loose cannon, and partially because I think she'd be a liability when ME 3 comes around and we're fighting Reapers and you need to be sure that you know how your squad will react and the ways in which they can and can't be trusted.

Personally i have to keep everyone alive i the suicide mission - to date i've never lost anyone and i dont want to lose anyone, sure seeing people like jack, jacob, and whoever else die i could watch, but i could never watch a screen where either Miri or Garrus died, i think that would tear me up inside, i just wouldn't be able to do it XD.

I'm deliberately getting someone killed. Maybe Garrus. This Shep is squeaky clean perfect. I feel like he needs the failure. I'm saving my "everybody lives" runthrough for my Paragade Ruthless Shep. He's still haunted by Torfan so having history not repeat itself means something to him.

Oh no....I'd bet it was very personal for both of them. The difference is that fathers are supposed to love their children, and what Miranda's father did to her was not so extreme, so Miranda might have been caught in a love/hate tangle. It was much clearer for Jack: everyone was her enemy.

If "what he did to her" actually is technically correct. I get the impression that Miranda's father had her life run by experts like an experiment, under controlled conditions as far as practical. There may be a roomful of psychological profiles of Miranda-as-a-child or a teenager hidden away somewhere in her father's data vault, all aimed to make her what he wanted her to become without her being aware of being pushed. Hmm, that does sound uncomfortably like Jack, only without the torture.

Only two ways to ensure that: either leave one of the ship upgrades (don't recall which one) or take Miranda and Jack through the swarms with an unsuitable biotic specialist.

If you really want to get Jack killed, here are your options:
1. Unloyal Jack as Escort
2. Put Jack in the first slot with you, and have Unloyal Samara/Miranda/Jacob as biotic specialist.
3. Make Jack the 2nd squad leader
4. Take unloyal Jack with you to the human Reaper.

There are other ways, but they won't necessarily get Jack killed because they are kind of random.

As for me, I prefer having all of my squad mates survive. That is how my "canon" turned out, anyway.

@Ieldra:
What I mean was that Cerberus didn't do the experiments on her on a personal basis. So far as we know, she would basically just some random child they got from somewhere. Miranda's father on the other hand has been doing things personal. It wasn't just something someone assigned to him.

Thanks guys. I've a playthrough or two where everyone survives, it's just something I'm contemplating for my soldier playthrough. He didn't romance anyone first time around, but couldn't resist Miranda, and, still being a bit feral due to his gang background, sees Jack as a threat to his girl. He knows she can handle it, but would rather she didn't have to, so he's going to sort it.

Sure, I got that the first time. But did that make any difference to them? To Jack in particular? Does something "not being personal" make it all less brutal and demeaning?

Yes, Garrus was my prime candidate in my previous playthrough as well, for reasons that had nothing whatsoever to do with roleplaying: He's the embodiment of the Rule of Cool, which I think is overused in ME2, I feel like his friendship is forced upon me - I certainly didn't see him as a friend in ME1, and he's the favorite of a certain group of players whose tails I like to twist by talking about letting Garrus die. So, if there's someone who must die for no better reason that perfect outcomes are boring, Garrus is among the first.

..uh...aren't we bloodthirsty this day. Just let me repeat I don't hate any of the squadmates.

Just because text-only thread pages are boring:

BTW:

I noticed DarthReavus has not added Yankee's fantastic Miranda video to the OP in spite of having been online. I wonder if it's possible to have the thread ownership changed. Here's the link to the video again, just in case anyone hasn't bookmarked it yet:

I feel the same way about Garrus, though I did like him in ME. I think all the fangirls and being constantly told I should love him turned me off. I'm a contrarian and I hate it when things are pushed down my throat.

Just finished Jacob's loyalty mission. I think it's pretty obvious she cares about him on some level. She stretched the rules to the breaking point for him, and I don't think it was just because she made a promise. The look she gives him is too pained. I think they had a romantic relationship. It just...didn't work out. She isn't pining, but I think she's fond of him. I wouldn't mind it if they reconciled, provided he could grow a spine, figure out what he wants, and stick with it.

*waits patiently for pitchfork-wielding mob*

The romance between them isn't really outlined in Mass Effect Galaxy till the end, but they did have partner relationship, with the "Right again!", "Looks like you called it!" and "Wish me luck!" bits. By the end, it seemed like they were going to start a romance.

Aha book marking that was the frist thing i did after the video had finshed, and i don't belive you can actully change thread owenership, maybe Stanley could do it with Reavus's permission but i don't know, and who's would be the new thread OP anyway?

Like I said before, Darth Reavus is dead. He didn't even change the name of the thread like I told him to. To that kick ass name(, you'd have to be crazy not to change to.) Changing ownership I don't think it possible...

Well, ditching Liara for Tali or Miranda isn't clean. I don't think you have to kill Garrus (my way of pleading that you don't kill him :crying:.)

It makes me think. Were they planning to have Miranda a squad mate and love interest in ME2 when they were writing/developing Galaxy?

Garrus is a badass, and i love him but Jtav is right, his 'coolness' is kinda rammed down our throats in ME2, and its kinda unessary.

They must have been because i remember a loading screen at at the bottom it said ' jacob and Miranda will be in BioWare's upcoming Mass Effect 2'

Garrus is a dead man. This game is doubling as refresher for the sake of the Liara/Miranda story, so I'm playing it as Liara already having moved on (your "kissing a stranger") scenario. Liara will get a faithful FemShep, and Miranda will get a single one.

I have games where I didn't kill him. That's about as far as I'm willing to oblige...:P And why shouldn't I break up with Liara for Miranda. Miranda is awesome!

Perhaps we should start a new one. Something different: a fan thread restarting from page 1 without being forced to do so by a shutdown. Has some style IMO. Only wouldn't work - people would continue to post in the longer thread. Maybe we should request a shutdown.

I'd never cheat on Liara with Miranda. For one, my ME3 game would come to a screeching halt whi;e I tried to choose between them.Completely separate Sheps for both.
