Oh, I agree that the phrase ca be overused and writers should strive to be more creative, but it can still be effective if used sparingly and they haven't been use at all in the enire trilogy. And Miranda doesn't strrike me as having much trouble saying it once she's decide she does love him.
I almost wish I hadn't cut the scene where Shep essentially says I love you by telling her to use his first name, but it makes more sense for the story to end with them temporarily estranged.
Perhaps Miranda could say "I wish I knew how to quit you!".
I'm trying to draw the whole romance plot out**. I wish there was a way (though there likely won't be) that I could basically have this attraction between them that neither of them admit to each other. I want to have this really climatic feeling when I get towards the end of ME 3, like their relationship is finally coming to fruition. I just like the idea of them really getting to know each other over two games, and surrending to their feelings in the final part of the romance plot.
**I'm talking about my decision to cut off the Miranda romance at the part where you can agree to be friends with Miranda, and Shepard says "Maybe someday?". Just incase anyone wasn't around for when I talked about that.
