That was one creative, unique and original idea. So unique, in fact, that I don't think it ever crossed the actual mind of the Bio developer. I have a feeling Miranda's past is not that thoroughly thought out, and we're filling it in as we go. May be they'll adapt it (oh, for Miranda's sake I hope they don't. I'd rather not have her past be overly tortured)
But the idea is still grand. Now, onto debating it...
Agreed. It probably did add to tension, but could not be the actual trigger. But... genetic research that adds totally new abilities is banned on Earth. Are Miranda's genes completely legal, or perhaps some of her biotic enhancements are actually illegal?Ieldra2 wrote...
The physical - genetic makeup and biotic ability
I conclude that the fact she was physically enhanced by her father was, if any, only a minor factor in their "gunshot parting".
Indeed, that would be a very, very good reason to consider abduction. And it will give some of a very, very good reason to shoot her father's head off once we meet him.Ieldra2 wrote...
Imagine: what would you think if found that your father, who you trusted, had staged extremely painful experiences you had considered the result of nothing more but bad luck or even bad judgment on your own part. Add her father’s absolute refusal to let her go her own way, and I think we have a setup sufficient for a "gunshot parting". I consider it also quite sufficient to make Miranda abduct her sister.
But wouldn't that turn her off shady research? She seems to be involved in a lot of borderline experiments herself.
I think being controlling is enough. Standing up to controlling father (without him being extra evil) actually fits Miranda's character. It takes guts to stand up to your dry, unloving, controlling father without any particular trigger but simply because you've had enough.
So probably he was controlling, she slowly but steadily grew tired. She was fed up, decided to walk out, he got pissed. Probably grounded her for good, perhaps reminded her how much she costs him (now I just envisioned him threatening to install a control chip, for all the good it'll do him... go away, silly idea, I'm trying to come up with mundane explanations here). She contacted Niket, made a break for it, and ended with Cerberus. That kind of mundane.

I refuse to pass final judgment on Miranda's father before having heard this side.
Agreed. But let the speculation continue!
And here's the partial transcript of Niket/Miri dialog. I was going to use it to play devil's advocate for Miri's father, but it's too ambiguous. And damn, Niket, you've talked yourself right into the corner here when you confessed to actually taking her money (Darth Reavus was right)
N, to Enyala:No! I was told that we could handle it my way. We're not traumatizing the family anymore ...
M:Niket. You've sold me out
S: How do you want to handle this, Miranda?
M:Why, Niket? You were my friend. You helped me get away from my father.
N: Yes, because you wanted to leave. That was your choice. But if I'd known you'd stolen a baby -
M: I did not steal her, I rescued her!
N: From the life of wealth and happiness? You weren't saving her, you were getting back at you father.
S:How did Miranda's father turn you?
N:They told me you'd kidnapped your baby sister all those years ago. They said I could help get her back peacefully. No trauma to the family. I told them you'd never do that. That they could go to hell. Then you finally told me what you'd done. I called them back that night.
M:Why didn't you call me, Niket? We've been through a lot. You should have at least let me explain...
N:I deserved to know that you'd stolen your sister, Miri. I deserved to know you were with Cerberus. But i had to hear it from you father first
S:How much did Miranda's father pay you?
N: A great deal. Don't get holy with me, Miri. You took his money for years.
S:Whether or not you agree with Miranda, Oriana has been with her family for years now.
N: I know that I've been poor, Miri. I did not much care for it
M: He wants to take a girl away from the only family she's ever known. Doesn't that tell you what he really is?
S:You're working for Miranda's father, that means he knows about Oriana. We need to find a new solution
N:Miranda's father has no information about Oriana. I knew you had spy programs in your father's system, Miri, so I kept it private. I'm the only one who knows.

I'm with Rath on this one haha. I'm a brunette guy so don't want to change perfection.
I am with you on that. Brunettes
Also Miranda is really fair skinned and that just doesn't work with being blonde.

Nonono. The dark hair is just a a part of Miranda's appeal. I'd never use a mod like that. That's just not Miranda.

If you choose Miranda as your biotic on the Collector base, will she survive? She *says* she can handle it, but so far I have considered Samara the stronger.

I asked the same thing in the original thread the other day, I think the final answer was that yes, she survives but 1 random party member who is with you will die because she isn't strong enough to do the biotic blast thing at the end.

I think the biotic always survives, but if you pick anyone other than Samara or Jack they won't be able to hold the barrier up long enough and one of your other squaddies will get carried off by swarms

Yes she will but she will collapse before getting to the end and one of your party members will bite it.
She is being the voice of the developers here...just letting you know you CAN choose any biotic. However Samara/Morinth were obviously recruited almost specifically for this task so it sorta seems like a waste.
Besides Miranda is better being on your team warping things and boosting your health and damage.

The below one was a lucky first pause during the scene and I just thought it needed words to express it even more (even though of course he does lose grip less than a second later lol)

Saved by the Shep!

and err... well... *coughs* Miri captured on camera mid-roll shortly after the save

The only thing interesting from a Mirimaniac's perspective is when she collapses, Shepard picks her up and carries her to safety which is sorta romantic...but probably not worth sacrificing one of your companions just for that.

Depends on who that companion is though, eh?

Unless it's a non-loyal Jack who was earlier whining about your love interest...

I did that, Grunt was my other squaddie. Took him into the final battle with me alongside Miri and of course then I was praying it was correct about being the 1st choice who is saved and thankfully it was.
The 'Miranda disapproves' pic I just posted is from right at the end just as she was about to bend down and save Shep hehe

I was thinking the whole Shep Miranda thing with R. Kelly's "Your Body's Callin" as the song.
Anyone feel enterprising?
