Meg, in my case, I avoid them as matter of looking after my health.

There was a time when I read fanfics until it was 5 in the morning and had to wake up early the next day. It had bad results. So now, as a rule, I avoid them lest I become addicted again.

There's also a little problem with your Sheps for me. All of you seem to prefer the Sole Survivor background, and feature that prominently in your stories. Even though I play mostly paragon with a bit of renegade, I always chose the Ruthless background. My Shep is known as the Butcher of Torfan, as they call him in game, even though he's a really good guy. So I can't really get into your stories, as it doesn't feel like my Shep.

We actually had a discussion regarding that in the 1.0 thread.

One of the things that's hard about portraying Shepard is the choices you have in deciding what his background and life has been like leading up to ME1.

It's hard to portray Shepard ambigiously (without mentioning his past) for the simple reason that his past defines his choices.

In example; would a War Hero understand what it's like to watch his squad to torn apart like a Sole Survivor would? No. Would that War Hero understand -truly- the pain that Garrus was feeling when he lost his squad? No.

Would a Earthborn know the luxuries of growing up in space, would a Spacer know the troubles of growing on Earth?

No.

It's hard to write a fanfiction about Shepard because, from the start, you need to understand that you will have people who won't be able to connect to your stories because their character's background is different from your's - and you'll have to understand that. While I regret that you can't enjoy our story because you can't connect to it - it's understandable.

With that said, however, I don't think we've mentioned, or plan on mentioning, Shepard's background in this current story. It's more Miranda centered. I could be wrong, but I can't think of a time we've referenced it in this story.

@Meg: Yeah, I read the Toombs section and that's what made me feel disconnected.

@Rath: My Shep is Earthborn Ruthless. Even though he's generaly a compassionate guy, especially to the helpless and innocent, he makes hard choices without regret and does what needs to be done.

Case in point, the Torfan Massacre, retaliation for the Skyllian Blitz. He killed every Batarian criminal his unit pursued, even those that surrendered, and lost many squad mates in the process. Every squadmate death saddens him, but he didn't make the choice lightly, he made it fully aware of the possible consequences. To him, everyone on that mission knew what they signed up for, and the job had to be done.

So his point of view would definitely be different from Spacer Sole Survivor, or other combinations. But I'll give your fanfic a shot, if yours is somewhat agnostic.

Activision took over Infinity Ward in 2003, in the same way BioWare are owned by EA.  Activision dismissed the heads of Infinity and will likely replace them soon.

Well apparently IW and Activision have been on bad terms lately. Here's what I've read so far:



IW studio heads Jason West and Vince Zampella have left the company and haven't been seen for a few days.

Activision security showed up at the IW offices and essentially locked down the place. Only employees are allowed in or out.

The Activision CEO is currently in a meeting with IW employees.

Activision recently filed a SEC complaint for "insubordination" on two "high ranking" employees.



Check g4tv.com or other sites. This story is clogging the Internet atm.

Apparently Infinity haven't received royalties from Modern Warfare 2 which made them unhappy, and the alleged breach of contract on their part was talking with other gamepublishers.
