I have to say I'm with gutty about the LI tying to the main storyline. The main plot should be pretty much the same, other than maybe a few scenes in the endgame. I remember talking about how awesome a kiss goodbye would have been if Miranda had to go lead one of the fire teams. I'm talking that kind of stuff, nothing crazy like "YOU MUST CHOOSE! Miranda or the Citadel?!" (I know you didn't say this Kab, just saying my opinion.
I don't think that people who don't romance anyone should lose out on a significant amount of content, and not really any main story content. There has to be some people out there who never had any of the potential LIs grow on them, and they should still get an awesome story. I remember one guy saying his Shepard was 100% focused on his mission. Kind of boring if you ask me, but it's his character.
Integration with the main storyline should be part of the love plots, but it shouldn't be a big part of the game. Your romance plot should be affected by the main storyline, not the other way around.
I'm not arguing that it ties in or affects the save the galaxy storyline. I'm just arguing that the romance line, if pursued by the gamer, should occupy a significant portion of the game. Think in line with the Persona games. You can choose to pursue various relationships and work through them, but you can also choose to ignore them. They don't alter the main thrust of the narrative, but they can be a major part of the game if the individual so chooses. That is all I want.
