Retribution takes place BEFORE ME2, soimetime after Acension and the comic.

Drew Karpyshyn said this on his blog:

I’ve been cruising the forums a little bit (yeah, I lurk there once in a while) and it seems like people are pretty excited about ME: Retribution. But there is also a little confusion I’d like to clear up. The novel takes place AFTER the events of the second Mass Effect game. So you can play ME2 when it comes out and not worry about spoiling the book.

And, if it is true, well I wouldn't want to be Miranda.

But it makes no sense.  TIM is testing out Reaper tech and he snatches Grayson to do so AFTER ME2...why would he need to test it when it was already tested on Commander Shepard.  Further wouldn't that testing have taken place before being used on his most important asset?

The time line simply doesn't work.

I understood Cerberus only gets access to using Reaper Tech after acquiring the data from the Collector Base.

Someone please correct me, but I thought Retribution will be set before ME2?

It is set before, remember guys, Cerberus was one of the few groups who got Reaper tech after the Cititdal battle. Thats how EDI was made.

Well thats stupid, why would TIM wait two years to get Paul? I think Drew was on drugs.

I do understand Drew is quite fond of redsand.

But perhaps it will make sense when we read the book.

If done right like DAO then I would be all for it. DAO sacerfice ending was very sad and if you romanced Leliana it hints that she commits suicide and if you leave Alistair to defend the gates and you sacerfice his life he becomes very misabrle.  I love DAO :wizard:

I now (thanks to a bunch of stupid idiots) hope there is one where we get to kill off some people, especially ones whom have yet had such an opportunity to arise... I will nominate that playthrough to some sad idiots whom have ruined my appreciation of that character due to their thick headed whining about that characters role in ME2.

As for Miri, other than the ones where she already died (1 out of 8), she will hopefully survive to the end of the others and either die alongside Shepherd in an ultimate suicide to save the galaxy kinda fashion or the only 2 humans left alive to restart the human race again kinda fashion.

But Valmy Shepard having Reaper tech is not contradicting anything. Cerberus got the tech after the battle of the cititdel, as we find out EDI was made from parts of Nazzara and we destory the dead reaper and in my case we destoryed the base. There is no way TIM got reaper tech expect from Nazzara, so Shepard haivng reaper tech is not contradicting anything.

Good question, but Shepard's resurrection did suck up a huge ammount of Cerberus resources...maybe he couldn't do it right away considering what he spend on Shepard...especially if the Commander decided to say FU and blow up the Collector base with intact Reaper tech.

LOL, well see Casey said that ME3 story will be very easy because there will be no more games after that. There will be more ME games but most likely not after ME3 's story so they can do anything they want. I think the Citidel is going to be destoryed my self.

I highly doubt that any Reaper tech was installed into Shepard.. If it was Miranda would know about it since she headed up the team.. Plus as it was stated in the game TIM wanted Shepard as he was with no imperfections or anything that would possibly mess around with his mental state.. He wanted him "on the top of his game". I very highly doubt he would risk putting some kind of experimental tech into Shepard.. Doesn't sound logical.

Ah yes, I'll have to have Liara die if given that option in one of my saves just for laughs.

Well we will see.  I don't think that would be a particularly interesting plot twist to me.  We have already done a huge Cerberus arc and just to revisit it and keep the story focussed there could become tiresome.

Not if the only thing able to bring back Shepard was Reaper tech. TIM would take that risk.

What I can't figure out is, given that Shepard is enhanced with Reaper tech, how it would affect him in his fight with the Reapers? What is the point of putting Reaper tech in him to begin with?

I'll drink to that. I now want to kill off one particular character.

One thing I will say, if my Shep does the sacrifice option, Miranda living or dying will have nothing to do with his choice. I think that's how she'd want it.

I hope we have an option to take over Cerberus, Cerberus was fine(they did some shady things when they where part of the Allience but STGs and specters have done worse) it was TIM wo decided to take Cerberus away and make it into the way it is, also if you talk to alot of the crew. Not everyone in Cerberus hates aliens, they just want to make humans strong. So I hope we have an option to either destory Cerberus once and for all or take over it and kill or arrest TIM.

I would only sacrifice Shepard if Miranda has his love child...that way we can have an even more badass character in future ME games...super biotic soldier.

I look at this way, Reaper tech might have been the only way TO bring him back to life.I don't think it adds anything, but it made it poseable to bring him back.

Right. The Reapers are pretty skilled at using tech to replace biotic functions.

Well look at what the Collectors where doing. They where growing a live Reaper, who was alive when we vs it. Reaper tech making life is not that farfechted.

Now that would be cool.. You would have the personal to get **** done without having to get some other organization to back you.. Not to mention Cerberus would probably gain a lot more respect having Shepard take over the helm of the company.. I hope we do get to take out TIM though..

As long as it doesn't bring along any awkward drawbacks with it (Being able to be taken over or somehow disabled by reapers). I wouldn't like anything like that to restrict my character, it is plausible though. I don't really know what to say, but how would mechanical man get an heir for his awesome sauce legacy, even though its not like Shepard would need a child for Bioware to be able to make more non Shepard Mass Effects.

Just have to hope the best and fear the worst I guess. :?

Like I said, I don't know if it's true, but there's definitely something "off" about Lazarus. If I'm right, it's possible that Miranda's might be the doomed Morrigan-style romance.

Makes sense, but seems kind of lame if that is its only function.
