This would work. Its funny, I care about the story and finding out that the Collectors were actually Prothean was awesome, but for some reason I care A LOT more about the LI stories than I do the main plot.

Miri and Shepard will live very long if they survive. Miri has a longer life span and because Shepard has a ****load of implants and already died once he will be living for a long time.

Definitely not a bastard. Or a he. But I do subscribe to the "Decide what the worst possible plausible thing could happen to these characters, then do it" school of plotting.

Her body is dying. Her implants are decaying her nervous system and her brain will one day just shut down with the rest of her nervous system.

She is deteriorating because of the L5 implants. If you're asking me if I have a problem with her then NO I don't, I just think the romance would be better if you have to treat every moment as if it is your last with her. She seems like that type of character. All fire and passion.

Mmm, you just given me an idea how to kill off a certain someone...

Sort of like a sacrifice but I like to think of it as a "Am going to enjoy watching you die!" specially if she is 'forced' to be a part of our squad even if our shep wouldn't have her.

Thinking some adept is required to put up some super biotic shield/barrier type thing to save the others but naturally at the cost of their own lives... given the choice between Jack, Samara and that certain other person, I know which one I would use everytime (well part from the one where my Shep is actually romancing her, but even then I might)

And if they make it another Viconia, I might be done with Bioware romances. I don't like being railroaded into one theme for an ending in a game based on choice. It pisses me off.
