but if I could get a Star Forge style confrontation and declaration of love out of it, I say "Bring it on"

Yeah I never did get to tell Miri I loved her.  Shepard always wimps out and only says he cares for people.

Time to start the petition for an "I love you" conversation option in ME3! Image IPB

Perhaps they kept Shepard from saying that in the first two games in preparation for a big ILY scene in ME3.

The only time I heard anybody say that in ME is in the e-mail Ashley sent me saying that she loved me.

I guess Miri says in an indirect way she is falling in love with Shepard.  'What crazy hormones decided this would be a good time for love?' or whatever.

I'd definitely like to see an official declaration from both characters, as long as BioWare handle it with class and not cheese. Image IPB

I just thought Shep wasn't the kind of person to throw around "I love you" all the time. I think he's cautious with it. I do hope we get an "I love you" moment in ME3.

Miranda: I love you
Shepard: I know

I know Ieldra will disagree with me, but I want the option to say "I love you" and hear it in return. Maybe that could be the reward to those who had only one LI throughout the trilogy.

Oh, nononononono. For the love of Mirivonne, please don't.

Honestly, with the way that phrase is tossed around so casually nowadays, it feels empty and meaningless to me. I really don't want it thrown in there.

Find some other unique and more meaningful way of saying it.

OT @Errol: that depends on the definition of best smartphone.

Best apps: iPhone (I have an iPod Touch, but I dislike the locked down OS)
Best hardware: HTC HD2 (nothing else even comes close, but lousy OS)
Best overall: HTC Nexus One (good hardware, OS and apps, but OS versions are too fragmented)

That would annoy me.  There are certain characters, like Jack, where the only way to not accidentally start the romance is to simply not talk to her ever.  I have to constantly turn her down but the girl just won't stop.

Huh?

Tossed around casually?  It seems to me that in fiction people have some sort of bizarre complex about saying it.

I say it all the time in real life and I mean it.  Not sure what you mean by 'empty and meaningless'?  You want to say something about that?  Because I honestly have no clue what you mean.

That's the reason I can never talk to Tali after her loyalty mission. Shooting her down makes me feel like the worst person alive.

As for the issue of the "I love you" conversation in ME3, I'm in two minds about it.  The hopeless romantic in me really wants to see it, but part of me hopes for a different dynamic between the two.  In short, while they intrinsically know that they love each other they don't feel the need to hear it said aloud, they just know and that's enough for them.

I thought Shepard did it in a very nice way.  He lets her down gently and she accepts it like an adult.  That is why Tali > Jack.

Yeah, I can understand both arguments. I just think it would be nice, after everything they've been through (including whatever happens in ME3) for Shepard & Miranda to be able to say that they love each other. I think it would make for a nice break amongst all the tension & drama that we're likely to go through in the final game. Image IPB

Maybe I'm just a big softy though, lol.

I'd say it's something for the endgame definitely.  My thoughts on the issue were more to do during the inevitable romance dialogue during the game.  I'd definitely like to see one of them definitively say it in the endgame though.

That seems a little...strange and emotionally disfunctional to me.  I guess I cannot really relate I have never met a couple who never said what their feelings were for each other but just sensed them somehow.

The timescale of ME2 is too short for the Trinity of Doom (i love you) to appear. I mean, how much time passes from Sheps awakening to the collector base? A month perhaps? And the "romance" slowly begins halfway into the game... And from that point on, theres only 2 more weeks to carefully build up an emotional connection until the game ends. I believe that´s just not enough time for Shepanda to realize that that they truly love each other. Telling each other is another huge step.

That might make sense...that now with the Reaper threat gone they now feel free for that kind of thing.

Still it seems kind of strange that going into certain death one wouldn't want to lay it all out there.  Especially since Shepard usually has his big romantic moments right when going into the jaws of death.

Also it depends on if there is some sort of denouement or not.

Anyway there might be several months between ME2 and ME3.  Heck there was 2 years between ME1 and ME2 and certainly nobody predicted that.

You also have to consider what might happen in ME3. If we get what we want and Miranda's backstory gets developed more and we deal with her father and possibly help relocate Oriana, these kinds of things could put their feelings into full acceleration, thus making a possible "I love you" scenario much more plausible.
