The problem is I find most horrors (games and movies) boring and predictable
Yeah they might get the odd cheap scare when something jumps out at you but they rarely make me feel fearful even when in the dark

You said it man.  My ex loved them and made me watch them with her all the freaking time.  It was sorta fun at first because she would freak out and need me for comfort...but man nothing was worse than having to suffer through all those horrible movies and games.

Okey... Guess I'll have to do with what I've got. Currently my 5th ME2 playthrough and most likely my last before ME3. Nothing to do before new DLC. :pinched:

I have been too busy to play much but I just started my 3rd playthrough...back in ME1!  Taking it slowly...still in the Citadel going to leave to get Liara soon.

The early part of the game is so much fun...before your soul gets eaten by endless Mako missions and planets.

Here's a question to breath life into this thread

What are some of your greatest / funniest / most satisfying moments in gaming?

Hmm. Some of them are quite a way back....
  • In Fallout (1) (1996), sneaking into the Military Base without getting caught - and getting 1000xp for that unusual achievement. Fallout often rewarded nonstandard behaviour in this way, which is why I think it's still one of the best crpgs ever made. Too bad the combat is annoyingly slow, and it looks outright ugly these days.
  • The final scenes of the game "Realms of the Haunting" (1997). After a long and arduous trek through several layers of reality, it ended in what I can only describe as one of the most evil good ends imagineable.
  • Finishing the mission "Return to the Haunted Cathedral" on the highest difficulty level in "Thief (1)" (1998) No game before and after matched the level of tension in that single mission. Too bad stylish sneaking games went out of fashion.
  • The intro of the game "Spellforce - the Order of Dawn" (2004). Where else would a game start with the destruction of the world and introduce central concepts of the game at the same time? It, together with its expansions, also had about the best protagonist's storyline I've ever seen in a game, even though it was imperfectly implemented.
  • The love scene with Vesna Hood in The Witcher (2007). What the peasants on the other side of the river made of what little they could see and hear of it - that's one of the funniest moments in 20+ years of gaming.
Gods, there are so many of these great moments, I can't recall them all. System Shock and the encounter with Shodan, Starcraft and its immortal characters Kerrigan and Zeratul, the true 3-dimensional levels in Jedi Knight, the main antagonist in Baldur's Gate 2, Deionarras haunting song in Planescape:Torment, the impossible Funhouse puzzles in Wizardry 7, the final decision in Deus Ex, and countless others.

Well, I guess waking up to see the face of one Miranda Lawson in the intro of that game "Mass Effect 2" also has the potential to become one of the great moments.

Hehe I still think back to winning Pool of Radiance back in the day.  Stupid Tyranthraxus charmed half my team...I pulled it out and then ran through the house cheering.  I was the happiest 12 year old on the planet.

Oghren: Ah. Yep. Lot of tension around here.

Alistair: You think so, do you?

Oghren: Know what I do to relieve tension?

Alistair: I hesitate to wonder.

Oghren: I polish the ol' weapon.

Alistair: Really.

Oghren: Yep. Give it a good shine. With a dry rag, then with a little grease.

Alistair: That's disgusting.

Oghren: You're telling me you never gave yer blade the old spit-shine?

Alistair: I think that's private.

Oghren: Really? Sodding Chantry and its rules. i like to do it right out in the open.

Alistair: Where people can see you?

Oghren: Yep.

Alistair: Wait, what are you talking about?

Oghren: What are you talking about?

Alistair: (Sigh) Never mind.

I know this is OT but what do you guys think of Metro 2033? It's been intriguing me for awhile and having just seen that Xbox World 360 gave it a 90 I'm really looking forward to it.

That's a game? I only know the book. Wish I hadn't bought it, it only catches dust on my shelf, and it takes up way too much space for what it's worth.

Yeah, the game is based on it. Creators said that you shouldn't read the book, if you want to play the game. The plot is straight from books.

That's one I never played. Then, as now, I tend to stick to a handful of favorites for a long time instead of playing two games per month like others do.

Just to clarify I am talking about the original in 1988, not the crappy remake they made in the 1990s.  If you missed the latter then you should be grateful.

Yes, I know. I avoided the Gold Box series for a reason I can't recall - to this day I've never played a single one. Probably because I really didn't like most D&D worlds, a fact that hasn't changed in the least.
