Hmm, greatest moment in gaming? I have a few.

One involves Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. You have to understand I am not much of an online FPS shooter. My kills/deaths ratio is usually around 50-50 and I'm usually middle of the pack in my team on score. One game, I just went into some kind of alternate reality and reeled off a 15 kill streak. It's not much by FPS standards, but to me it was like a 50 kill streak lol.

The other was when I epically saved my raid as a healadin in Nax25 in World of Warcraft on Grobbulus after a third of the raid had gotten themselves killed due to stupidity.

Yeah they might get the odd cheap scare when something jumps out at you but they rarely make me feel fearful even when in the dark

Since we've had it about old games:
  • If you want to know how it feels to cower in a corner until a group of zombies has walked by, hoping they won't notice you because you know if they do you're dead,
  • If you want to know how it feels to strain your ears for any suspicious noise, because you know quite well you'll hear them before you get to see them,
  • If you want to know how it is to creep about places trying to avoid combat, because you're not a fighter and combat will most likely get you killed,
Then you could try the game "Thief". If you can stand 10-year-old graphics. It's not really a horror game, more of a steampunk/fantasy mix with horror elements in the way of undead, but it beats any horror game for tension. There's s texture pack for it making the graphics a bit less ugly, and hundreds of very stylish fan missions, some of the most popular of the "haunted house" type. If you want classic horror reminescent of old ghost stories instead of cheap splatter, this is where you want to go.

Thief was great, didn't understand it, but played it. Mm... Small kid with no understanding of English. Anyone played Severance: Blade of Darkness?

I guess you also know the forums at ttlg.com? I had some difficulties getting the cutscenes to run earlier this year and got good advice there.

Oh how could I forget my MOST epic gaming moment of all?

Mass Effect 1, hardcore playthrough with a mid-50s soldier, running up the citadel tower with a team of Liara and Tali. Stuff died. I don't think I hardly stopped moving forward during the run. It was so glorious. Had a geth destroyer start to charge me, Liara hit it with lift, Tali unloaded like all her powers into it, and its carcass went flying off into the distance. Nothing could touch us.

Plus Tali shot Saren's corpse right in the head.

Yes, but didn't finish it. Don't recall why. Either it was too hard or I couldn't get into the combat system.

Oh yes, "LIft" was the power for charging enemies! So much fun to let the krogan charge and send them flying on Virmire, or do the same to the charging geth on the Citadel. I must say that ME2 lacks those moments, even while the combat system in itself has improved. But then, in ME2 we have the interrupts to make cool scenes.

:crying: Ah, too bad. I know why I often buy a second copy of my favorite games after the prices have hit reasonable levels. Never had to use one, though.

I just knew someone would bring that up
But if you only play four or five games per year, it's not a big thing to pay a bit more for one or two of them. Considering the play time I get out of my games it's still a very good deal. I usually wring my games until I've seen the last little bit of them. Some stay with me for years.

Some might consider this semi spoilerish for a season 3 episode, however, someone has taken that scene and done an 'inner thoughts' version.

Here is a question for you:

In a fanfic, I want Miranda - this story plays back in 2166, with her still living at "home" - to stumble upon one of her father's dirty secrets. The evidence must be in form of a communication, or a surveillance protocol or something like that, since it's featuring a conversation. How do you think she can get it? I've been thinking about her father - he isn't stupid and won't have such stuff lying around in the digital archives for two years. I've considered a few options but don't really like them for various reasons. Perhaps you can help me out.

Considering she's fairly tech savvy in the game, how about she finds some of her father's surveillance stuff and repurposes it? Or perhaps she hacks into the surveillance network?

She could be playing with her biotics and throws something that breaks open a secret compartment in a wall with datapads inside
