I was 5, so if it isn't from Transformers, He-Man, Thundercats or any other late 80s/early 90s cartoons I won't get it!andysilv87 wrote...

Cheers andy....to use a film quote (cookies for who gets it)...I feel like I been rode hard
and put away wet.
Hate being ill lol
I'm afraid I don't get the reference. I'd Google it, but that'd be cheating.
It's like "Me, myself and Irene" Quote"My arse has taken a pounding over the years" (refers to driving a cop bike as a highway petrol)
It just doesn't sound right

Oh, oh...I see you vanishing in BG-land for extended periods of time. If you can stand the low-res characters, that is. The games are still superb, but characters' faces consisting of nothing more than a hundred pixels or so take some getting used to after ME2, even considering that you can't zoom in on them.MegWithAMouth wrote...
Well you should all be happy to know that I've succumbed to peer pressure and just ordered the 4 in 1 BG boxset on ebay. And for only 21 bucks!
One thing, though: try to install the BG1tutu mod. It lets you play BG1 with the BG2 engine. The BG1 version has some very annoying features like an ammo slot limit of 20 (BG2: 40) per slot and it unpauses the game automatically when entering the inventory screen (to prevent players from switching armor in combat - that's done better in the later versions).

I've only had a widescreen for half a year. Haven't played BG2 in that time. And the game in itself does look pretty good, it's only that I'm used to being able to individualize my character's in-game face now, and the very small 2D character figures prevent that so your in-game characters look somewhat generic. You have the character portrait, of course, and there are some pretty good ones, but in-game it's a noticeable step back from games like ME2.Maviarab wrote...
More import mod than that ield is the Widescreen mod, game looks beautiful for me, not sure what setting you playing on for it to look bad....
It's still one of the best CRPGs ever made even 11 years after release. And Jon Irenicus is among my top 3 game antagonists of all time, together with System Shock's Shodan and one other I can't remember right now.

It's always good when a villian like Irenicus has a good VA, in his case David Warner.Ieldra2 wrote...

If you can ignore that, then both the BG games and expansions are amazing, even if you only play them once, the boxsret is dirt cheap on ebay now (the individual games with exp's) are even cheaper....got mine of fleabay....cost me about £8 for them both
And then if you do, be sure to pick up (if you can find it anyway, very rare now) Planescape: Torment, which imo, is the best RPG ever made (uses same engine as BG)

Hmm....you might not be able to get into it Andy for the reasons Ield mentioned, old game now, old game mechs, old gfx etc etc....(what with you being a modern gen gamer hehe)

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'll consider it though, might be worth a look at some point.

And thanks for the suggestions Ieldra and Mavi. I'll be sure to check those out.
Anyway, I'm ridiculously tired, so I'm going to bed. Good night!

I'm wishing I'd played BG2 now...I feel ashamed because I haven't.
I know right! I was more into Diablo2 at that stage, I only heard about BG when games like Oblivion and KOTOR was coming out, so BG just looked old to me.
Anyway, not buying games at this stage, paying of credit card dept of air tickets to Canada, visiting my parents. Gonna be cool.

DIII was really interesting me, but even though it has a new engine, it still looks like the old top down isometric style, and as we have said today, that really is old hat now, not sure I could cope with playing a 'new' game in an old style anymore (where as do not mind playing 'old' games because thats the way they were made back then)....
Anyway, feeling a little better right now, still ache, but have turned heating up hehe, sweat it out of me

Aahh. the nostalgy. It only takes reading that game's name, and I have Deionarra's haunting song in my ears. I can only agree: in terms of real roleplaying, it's about the best game ever made. But for the same reason it takes a lot of reading - dialogs and even some descriptions are text-only. And the graphics look utterly ugly these days - yes, it does use the same engine as the BG games but the resolution is fixed at 640x480 - imagine that on a 24" widescreen monitor (Or is there a higher-res mod for that, too - it's been a few years since I looked?)Maviarab wrote...

As for the BG2 widescreen mod, it's on G3, one of the few BG-related places I still visit regularly.
Edit:
I just noticed the widescreen mod supports PST.
(Can't wait to get home)
