Hey Annjul, yea it's a game. You just post a quote and someone has to guess it and if they get it right they post a quote. And I only know some of them.

I'm surprised I haven't been run out of the thread already, seeing that the part of her personality I focus on is "ruthless, willfully blind terrorist"

As I said, I'd run out nobody who does have a point. In my eyes, it's a smaller point than you make it to be, but it still is one. I think Miranda is indeed capable of such things, regardless of whether or not she actually was involved in things like Akuze. But then, IMO everyone is capable of anything, it only depends on the circumstances.

But - there has to be a "but" - I have one big problem with the "wilfully blind": I think Miranda is also smart and able to see things from a distance. I very much doubt she'd stay wilfully blind for an extended period of time, given some evidence as to what's really going on. Faced with unpleasant truths, in the end she will try to find out what's really going on.

I think she'd look for evidence, eventually. But I find that somewhat infuriating that she doesn't admit so many rogue agents in an organization tthat small strains credibility. If anyone else made claims like that, she would have investigated them sooner. I also noticed something interesting. She refers to the ME Cerberus projects as being carried out by "our" military division but Teltin "wasn't Cerberus."

I think you'll be VERY pleased with my story, Ieldra.

Yes I call it Quotes here are the rules if you want to play

The rules are simple someone says a quote and we guess what its from
The first to get the right answer gets to post the next quote but you must wait for the person who posted the quote to tell you it's right before you post your quote
in the event that no one guesses and your about to log off you reveal what it's from and nominate someone to post the next quote
the quote can be from games, movie, books, etc.
if people are having difficulty your can give hints and tell what medium it's from

At least it's not a divorce case involving children.  Even if the mother is the biggest cheating sl*t in the world and the father is the very model of the perfect father the courts would still award most of the money and custody of the kids to the cheating sl*t!

I have a similar complaint going in the opposite direction: what strains credibility in the first place, IMO, is that things like Akuze and the experiments on Toombs, given the smallest bit of today's science, make absolutely no sense. I can see an intelligent but ruthless organization experiment on living intelligent beings if they can see no other path to success (as maybe in the case of Jack), but I can't see them doing it wilfully if easy alternatives exist and completely ignorant of the ethical implications. This also applies to the colony turned into Husks (although IIRC, that was ExoGeni not Cerberus).

As a result, I find it believable to say "It can only have been a rogue cell. TIM wouldn't have done these things, not because of ethical constraints, but because they don't make sense".

I guess it's my turn, then:

“When we truly apprehend the gods, the […] sages say, we recognize them not as kings but as thieves. This is among the wisest of blasphemies, for we always see the king who cheats us, never the thief.”

The [...] contains the name of a culture that would make this too easy. Since I guess there aren't too many fantasy book experts here, I'll give a hint: this phrase appears as a quote introducing the eightth chapter of a fantasy book, the first one of an epic fantasy trilogy.

No, that's wrong.

(I didn't think "epic fantasy trilogy" would point to Pratchett....*confused*)

I'll wait for 10 minutes to see if Guardian posts anything, then I'll post the solution and give the turn to the first one who wants to continue... unless an additional hint helps: the trilogy also features a holy war, a mythical apocalypse and a superhuman monk as one focal character. The protagonist is a sorcerer.

The writing style points to Pratchet hehe, and pratchets books can be classed as sequals and trilogy's in themselves, even though they all interconnect into a greater scheme....

But was mainly the style of the writing that made me think of him hehe....
