If I said who wrote it, that would be pretty much a giveaway - the author has completed only one epic fantasy trilogy. This book was his first, and it was published in 2003.

It is also completely unrelated to any video game, movie or rpg system or world.

Indeed it is. The trilogy is named "The Prince of Nothing", the author is R Scott Bakker. I'd like to add that if you'll read only one epic fantasy trilogy after LotR, you should read this one. Complex but utterly satisfying. A reviewer has called it "the defining epic fantasy of this generation", and for once I agree completely with such a statement. About half a dozen of my favorite quotes are from these books.

I consider this one of the most seductive Miranda shots. The engine room scene is nothing compared to this IMO. The lighting may have something to do with it.
