Morning all.
Not at all. As I said, the Miranda in your fanfic was very convincing. Since usually I prefer non-romance main plots in stories, I appreciate the themes you write about.Ieldra, I don't think you missed anything. BTW, "Are we really that bad?" was what I wanted to ask when you said you notice there's a majority of men here a few days ago. At that time I didn't see anything particularly bad, but I've been wondering if this thread comes across to women as the Kaidan thread comes across to men. I'd prefer it did not.

I hope not. My apologies, ladies, if we make you feel uncomfortable.

I think he was objecting to me giving Miranda issues with chronic pain and committment in a prequel AU. Come to think of it, andy said I was "brave" for saying her father was an abuser. It seems pretty clear to me that she was verbally/psychologically abused, so I don't get it.

I only get uncomfortable when there's a ton of Yvonne pics or discussion, especially the wall of pics. The occasional conflation of actress and character bugs me because of the subtle implication that you must like both equally. I enjoy the Miranda pics, and most people here are very good about not reducing her to "dat ass."

I agree. There must be something very bad about her father - you don't have a parting involving gunshots just for a regular family fight. Abuse is a likely possibility, killing Miranda's sisters another one. In the story I'll hopefully be able to finish before everyone has lost interest, her father sets her up for a dangerous situation in order to trigger her biotic ability. In fact, it's even worse than it sounds, but I don't want to spoil any details.jtav wrote...

Any implication of having to like both is being assumed... no one is saying you need to and I would say all of us are having no trouble separating character from VA.jtav wrote...

i assumed that none of her other "sisters" lived past embryonic stage as they were being genetically-engineered. i can imagine psychological abuse, stemming from such high expectations, but verbally?Ieldra2 wrote...

It's part of the same thing. Verbal *is* psychological. As for Miranda's sisters, how would he know if any of his "daughters" could live up to his expectations if he did not give them the chance? Miranda says she's "the first one he kept." That doesn't sound like something as comparatively harmless as an early abortion.Jebel Krong wrote...

We don't have as much fan art, but some can be found in the group. Myself, I'm a person of words rather than pictures, so expect me to write the occasional wall of text about Miranda. Just don't expect visual art. I think that tendency goes for the whole thread. We seem to have more discussion and less art.
@DarthReavus:
You're getting into your old persona as Chief Inquisitor of this thread, it seems - you were more unfriendly than needed. Good afternoon, btw.

We are a much deaper group of fans, we don not idolise Mrir for her looks alone, but rather for the well written chraracter that she is and depth of her story.

verbal abuse can be psychological absue as well, if it's used that way, but not always - for instance aggressive language/behaviour is not necc. psychological in nature but can still be abusive. of course i guess it is still semantically entangled.
as for living up to expectations, i fully assumed that the extensive genetic engineering wouldn't necc. be foolproof first time, and getting the right mix of genes for the "perfect" offspring wouldn't be easy. let alone tring to make a biotic one - what's the success rate for biotics even surviving <10%?

Perhaps, I'm feeling more and more tired and run down thanks to work and that's just making my mood worse. Six day, or longer, weeks are becoming more and more frequent at the moment and I don't think I'm getting sufficient time to rest and relax. Fortunately I've got a week off soon, hopefully it comes before I snap altogether.andysilv87 wrote...
