Well, since several others have done something nice to commemorate 1,000 pages, here goes my effort:
Illium at night.
Kiria Shepard couldn't help but smile at how the planet reminded her of a fictional place called "Coruscant", the city-world that was the capital of the known galaxy within her favorite works of old Earth literature. Though this planet wasn't entirely covered in skyscrapers, the view from the starport where the
Normandy was docked certainly gave that impression. With the Collectors dealth with and Cerberus left choking on stardust, she felt light as a feather, for perhaps the first time since that awful business on Eden Prime.
Only one thing could make this feeling better.
The crew were scattered about Nos Astra, celebrating in their own fashion, leaving Kiria alone to pursue her own agenda. Walking at a brisk clip, she struck out for her old friend's office, not entirely surprised to see that a new face was sitting at the reception desk. The young salarian greeted Kiria with deference, nodding and shaking her hand as he ushered the Spectre into the office of Liara T'Soni.
"...and be sure to remind her that we're counting on that code key," Liara was saying to the hologram of a blue face-painted turian. "Without it, the data packet we intercepted will be useless!"
"Don't worry, Ms. T'Soni, she'll get it to you on time," the turian replied.
The hologram winked out, and Liara, her countenance looking haggard and worn, slumped at her desk, seemingly oblivious of the new arrival. Grinning, Shepard took out the datapad she'd been carrying and playfully tapped the asari on her crown. "Was this what you were looking for?"
"Ouch -- Kiria?! That hurt!"
"Oh, come on Liara," Kiria said with a smirk, " I know just how hard your head can be."
"But...what are you doing here?" Liara asked, confused. Then she looked at the datapad. "And how did you get this?"
Kiria, still grinning, took a seat on the other side of her love. "Well, I was just out taking a refreshing walk when I happened upon some Eclipse chasing down an asari in casual attire. The mercs never saw me coming. Your courier, not knowing who I was, figured she'd be better off disappearing, and asked if I could pass this along. When she mentioned who it was for, I couldn't resist the chance to see you again."
"I...see..." Liara said. She was still a bit nonplussed, but relief and gratefulness brightened her eyes and she finally smiled. "In any case, thank you. You don't know what this code-key, and the information it will unlock, means."
"I'd like to know, certainly," Kiria replied. "But that can wait. I'm here to take you out..."
Faster than Liara could react, Kiria Shepard whipped out her pistol, pulled the trigger, and BANG!
"Oh, ha ha, Kiria!" Liara exclaimed, shoving the novelty toy away from her face. "I should spank you for that, but I must ask: How in the cosmos did you find out it was my birthday?"
Kiria put the toy gun away, smiling her broadest yet. "It wasn't easy."
