Maybe not...the less Liara knows about it, the safer she would be.

Wouldn't Liara have attempted to remain in contact with Benezia if that were the case? Benezia would have been the one to end their relationship, and Liara would have phrased it like "Benezia stopped talking to me years ago" rather than "We have not spoken to each other in years".

Both theories are entirely plausible, though. I'm just arguing over semantics now. :P

IIRC, the line is "*I* have not spoken to *her* in years." That indicates to me that Liara was the one who broke off contact.

Hey guys, I just had this idea last night: Um, what if Liara is the immaculately-conceived child of the Prime Reaper? Inane, idiotic, or just plain a stupid idea?

Way too far fetched. Remember we killed a reaper larvae at the end of ME2. To make one, you need millions upon millions of goo-ified organics.

Next-gen? ...

It ain't happening, let it go :P

Yeah, the human reaper seemed odd enough, I doubt they'd go that far.

As for my avatar, it's awesome :D

You know, I think she says both lines at different points in the game.

Point still stands though that it indicates that Liara and Benezia stopped speaking for a reason other than her joining up with Saren.

I thought you said it could be interpreted as that or what I said?  :P

Yep, that's if you don't start getting really anal about the phrasing of what Liara says like I am. :P

Ignore me, I'm looking way too much into this!

I think that between Benezia and Liara fired up plain generation conflict.

Maybe Benezia wanted Lia to follow her footsteps and become more or less leader of the Asari when Lia wanted more freedom to do what she please (aka study history of the protheans for example), they clashed and then part on rather "unfriendly" terms until that fatal meeting on Noveria.

I was wondering from who Lia learn that her mother join forces whit Saren but from her words i assume that she known pretty well who Saren is.

I think Liara first hears about Benezia working with Saren when Shepard tells her on Therum. Liara knows who Saren is because he's the Council's top Spectre, and somewhat notorious for his methods and the way he accomplishes his missions.

I believe Liara refers to Saren as "that Turian bastard!" :o

I dont think they clashed or anything, I just think they grew distant. Benezia had huge responsibilities to take care of, and Liara went her own way, and studied the protheans probably without much contact for 50 years. I imagine they only met on so many occasions, and Benezia would follow up on seeing how her daughter is, but other than that they had little contact.

I dont believe Benezia joining Saren had anything to do with it, because I can only imagine that as being a recent thing, and Liara may not have spoken to Benezia for maybe getting close to a decade for all we know.

Clearly Liara still thought of her mother enough when they parted last that her joining up with Saren distressed her, and she thought it seemed unlike her.

That's true...she must know him a little.  It's even possible Saren visited Benezia's estate from time to time as he was business partner and friend to Benezia.  He didn't make much of an impression on Liara, I take it.

I remember one of the dialogues when Shep says .

-All children rebel against thier parents (or pretty close to this <must replay that scene again>).

And Then Liara smiled and answer.

-You share wisdom of the Matriarchs because that's exactly same words which Benezia used when i told her about my plans to study Protheans.

So there was disappointment factor involved here anyway.

Yup. I could imagine Liara would have known about Saren regardless of meeting him personally. The media would have probably tried to dig up dirt on Saren and his methods, and there would have been alot of rumours of his brutality floating about. Liara would have known about him anyway.

I think she only knew him as the epitome of a "ruthless spectre". The kind who doesnt care about innocent deaths so long as the mission is completed. I doubt they actually ever met, otherwise it would have been brought up, the same as Wrex.

And to be honest, I think if Benezia were as involved at that with Saren for such a long time, it wouldnt have been such a shock to learn she was the other voice in that recording. I stand by the idea that Benezia joining up with Saren was a fairly recent development. I doubt such a high profile matriarch and so many of her subjects (many being commandos) could disappear off for such a long time with Saren on some mission without attracting attention.

Yes, I think it was recent as well...but I was thinking about 5 years or so.  I don't know why I have the impression Benezia and Liara stopped talking only like 5 years before the events of ME1...I must have made that up at some time.

I thought it would be about the same, somewhere at or between 5-10 years.

I just dont think they really "stopped talking" in the sense that there was a disagreement or anything, just simply hadnt been in contact since.

That's kind of what I was thinking too...except the reason they hadn't been in contact was due to Benezia's plans with Saren and her eventual indoctrination. They didn't have a huge fight or anything.

Pretty amazing that after only 10 minutes or so max of ME2 content Liara, Ashley and Kaidan still have such a strong following here. That should be what counts if you ask me.

Yeah, Garrus, Thane, Miranda and Tali are bound to have a strong following given their place in ME2, but the ME1 LIs? I agree with certain folks that you can pretty much suggest it was their intention to make their pathetic cameos as repulsive as possible to drive folks to the new LIs.
