You known what... i think that despite lack of communication from Bioware staff i think ME 3 could be quite different from what we saw in ME 2.
Why?, because i got yesturday small (however understandable when rEApers watched behind his back) e-mail from Drew Karpyshyn himself and he assure me that ME 3 will answer at many our concerns.

Hmmm... if he after all did spare little time to actually answer me (i never tought he will to be honest) then maybe there is still spark of hope in this dark tunnel of deseration?

Wow, I'm also surprised he mailed you back! That's some great news indeed!! =]

Hello my fellow Liara Fans! :wizard:
Hows the mood here, today?

Am I the only one or does anyone else always get a sudden urge to vote if he sees such polls: Poll with Liara in it

I think this would be very very interesting.  Could Shepard accept Liara's 'flaws' and still love her regardless?  This would pertain to Paragon Shepards and even some Renegade ones....some Renegades like Liara and her romance because they like the idea of Liara playing the calming foil to their Renegades' ruthless passions.

Yeah its an interesting idea to play around with, though I dont know if a paragon could accept a "flaw" like being "corrupt with power" this could end in a very lethal way for Liara as pointed out before,if Bioware would play that for drama

But in the end I guess it will be as we both said, there is this little reaper invasion going on in ME3 and we have 8 other Lis so it would be unlikely to do such a thing in a way it would satisfy people

That's great that he replied to your email.

Didn't you say before J that you'd be extremely pissed if they did the whole "Shepard saves Liara from herself" thing in ME3, and that we have to "save" her?

Yes, I don't really like it, but if they do go that route, I hope they at least make it stand out somehow from the typical way it's handled.

I still prefer a situation where Shepard would have to accept the 'new' Liara.  This wouldn't be 'love changes' but 'love helps us accept flaws in others' type of deal.

As long as it's not a full blown "redemption" with Shepard intervention and she can handle at least some of it on her own would be nice. It seems like that route is about the main character being a savior in the LI's life.

No, I think J means more hardened. Not so archaeology style, more information broker.

Yeah,
I don't want that 'white horse rider comes to save the damsel in distress' crap.  I would rather her help her self, for the most part.  Shepard can be there for support, though.

I just mean the Liara that has shown a more ruthless side to her personality.  This Liara can still be in love with Shepard, of course :D

Yeah, the "big brave Shepard runs up and saves poor Liara from herself" thing would be awful, and so cliched. Liara is a stronger character than that, she doesn't need to be coddled and be guided by someone who is emotionally stronger. She's capable of resolving her own personal demons herself, with Shepard's help and support of course.

To be honest, though, I see enough in ME2 that suggests to me that Liara isn't going to go down that path at all, and that she hasn't and never will compromise her own values, morals and principles. She's just extremely hurt, and tormented from everything that's happened to her. She hates what she's having to do, and the person she's pretending to be.

Rather than "guiding her away from a dark path", I see it more as being "comforting her and helping to ease her pain". She's not actually as hardened as some people like to make out. She's just having to do a job she sees as a necessity, and hates it all the same.

I understand but it shows how much she changed in just 2 years ... even her tone of voice and how she spoke was just mind-blowingly different..

they should have kept ome of her past mannerisims from me 1 =(, i liked the kiss though :DImage IPBImage IPB

Hey, at least she didn't speak in that deep, husky voice she uses when threatening that guy when you first see her again in ME2. To have her speak like that all the time would be going too far.

I did like Liara's little surprised and excited "Shepard!" when she realised Shep was right behind her, though. That there was the real Liara!

Yes , i agree (about the suprised face)  it showed her past side just for a second and then she came back to who her presant self was.. I just wish she seemed the sweet 106 year old  that could still protect herself if she needed too that i knew in mass effect ,  But i am not going to judge her here . Mass effect 3 will hopfully show us the Liara we love & know Image IPB

Personally I would prefer more achaeologist and less of the ME2 mess, that was seemingly just made to satisfy their "darkness" fetish,oh yes and to make up something to keep her out of the Squad, but never showed any natural progression of the character
All in all if they wanted to have Liara "grow up" or whatever there were better ways to do it and some that felt more natural, even having her sitting around on Illos could have worked maybe
But I guess in the end we are stuck in this mess we have now and I'm not all that sure if I want to see an end, with all these uncertain factors around

Yeah discovering her at a dig site would be a very touching way to re-unite.. and even visiting her there & what would be even more understandable would be that she couldnt come because she had so much prothean tech to study..

i would have been more than happy with that .. atleast you know she isnt looking in vain for somone that killed her friend.. did she look for the collectors when they "killed" Shepard .. Um no.. i dont think so anyway i could be wrong.. but i understand some of her motives from the comic.

Well her leading the councils research teams on Illos in process of uncovering something that helps against the incoming invasion would have made sense too,I think they could have still given her a few small quests like Shepard has to help disabling an old prothean defense system or something like that, hell they could have also thrown the SB in it by having some of his agents around trying to steal something for the Collectors or just for profit

As for the comic, well if we are brutally honest with that it was just a way to make quick cash out of the fact that Liara was supposed to be kept out of the game,I would say her role is somewhat interchangeable,I would say Miranda and Jacob would have worked too, which in Jacobs case might have helped the character
