A war of minds could get interesting if a powerful biotic intervenes mid-process. As you avoid being killed in the 'real' world, you could potentially have to stave off hallucinations that attempt to crush the last ounce of your mental resistance to Reaper control. Biotic interferance from a third party (such as Liara) may be able to provide resistance against this ... but for how long?
I don't think being a biotic have anything to do with indoctrination, and biotics can't get into other people's heads. Only Asari and Thorians can AFAIK.
Am I the only one who wishes Liara's background as an archaeologist was
better developed in ME1? I would have liked to have heard a story or two
about some discovery she made, or some irritating research assistant,
or something.
This! If there's something Liara as a character i would criticise, it would be the lack of any background story (we only know a few facts and nothing more)

Everyone always wants more dialogue, but in ME 1 it felt right, and that's the most important thing.
Not necessarily *more* dialogue, just different dialogue. I thought *way* too much time was spent discussing the mechanics of asari melding and too little time was spent getting to know Liara as a person. (Then again, this is from the outside looking in, so...)

Darn, should have rememberd that!
But you get the general gist - someone tries to interrupt the mental process before you are completely and permanently indoctrinated.

Like, maybe tell us why she decided to become an archaeologist, what it is that intrigues her about that field of study, some interesting finds she's come across over the years.

I agree. We never really get a chance to "really" know her, besides her basic history, background, and race. That's it. We don't know if she has half sisters. We don't know if she has any friends. She doesn't have any interesting stories from her past. We just know that she's attracted to you, she resents her mother but loves her, and she feels sorry for Saren. With Ash, Kaidan, Garrus, and Wrex, you're given not only background, basic history, and details, but also a battle of opinions and beliefs.
And about the melding, yeah, that bit me in the ass once when Benezia was killed, and yet Liara wanted to talk about how it works, and that it's more then just sex.<_<

Yeah, I see what you mean. But I think the explanations were important too, in the first game. It adds a lot to the atmosphere to see the characters talking about it, instead of reading the stuff in the codex. I agree with you that learning more about her would've been great, but it should've been done with additional dialogue.

Now if only my laptop's processor was fast enough to RUN ME 1 and I had the skill and time to actually do this sort of thing! Darn my luck!
Oh well, still, another good pic of Liara, so I've stopped complaining!

As it stands though, Liara tells us why she decided to become an archaeologist, she tells us a little about growing up as the daughter of a powerful Matriarch, we know how much she values the asari union and how important it is to her, and we're told of her compassionate nature through her sympathy for Saren. Like alot of you, I do wish that we're told alot more about Liara the person.
But hey, it's fun to speculate and think up what she got up to whilst on her long expeditions!

Perhaps she developed a passion for charcoal grilling.

Maybe BioWare thought that the fact that Liara's mother was second in command to the main antagonist was sufficient backstory and provided enough of a personal element to Liara's involvement and her backstory? I'm just wondering that if they had Liara go into her past and her personal life whilst talking to her to the extent that Ashley, Kaidan and Wrex too, they were worried that players might complain that there was too much content devoted to Liara, and that it almost felt like she was the co-star next to Shepard? Perhaps they thought that having Benezia be an antagonist, and unique dialogue if you take Liara to comfort her, that provided enough of a personal element to Liara's participation in the mission?
Um, Mass Effect Redemption? The fact that she is the only character who can't die no matter what? The (apparently) forgone conclusion of upcoming Liara *DLC*? The promise that she'll be an integral part of ME3?
She's already the co-star next to Shepard. I think she'll get the next Iphone minigame.
