One thing that we discussed a few days ago is if Liara can be deemed a personification of the trilogy, it's story and the Mass Effect universe itself? In ME1, we operate mostly in Citadel space. We're shown a very idealised sci-fi universe, everything seems very innocent and efficient, it's a very virtuous setting. We get a very happy, innocent, somewhat naive and caring Liara.

In ME2, we operate in the Terminus Systems. We're surrounded by slavers, pirates, mercenary gangs. The setting is alot more bleak, everything is alot more corrupt. We get a hardened and saddened Liara who has lost some of her naivette, and idealism. She's alot more jaded.

Is it possible that Liara is a personification of the trilogy itself?

I thought of this too. While it may not be intentional by the ME team, it is true that Liara has so far reflected the feel of both games.

Heh, perhaps when we discover what the ME3 buzzwords are, we can get an idea of how Liara will be in the next game...

There's definatly some form of relation between the development and Liara's character and the mood of the trilogy. Guesses as to what may happen in ME3, as Shepard may now be forced to confront the Reapers directly.

Certain? Maybe not. Impossible? Definatly NOT!

Threepio and Artoo are pretty much the "narrators" for the Star Wars trilogies, so it follows that Liara could be the narrator of the Mass Effect Trilogy in the same vein. Of course, that may involve Shepard making an unavoidable "heroic sacrifice" at the end of ME3...then again, it might not.

Or...

This could be a prequel trilogy. The second Mass Effect trilogy could involve Liara as a Matriarch, helping the protagonist take on some pan-galactic threat. Maybe it takes that long for the Reaper fleets to finally show up, and this trilogy focuses on the epic final confrontations (i.e., The Reaper War).

I really do hope that Liara has a huge and influential role in stopping and defeating the Reapers, too. I know that's already likely, what with her being the only characters guaranteed to be alive, but to see Shepard and Liara saving all sapient life in the galaxy together...that would be incredible.

LET, that's an interesting concept, one I hope the devs take up. I think Liara's presence may have an additional impact to our (AAA LI-orientated persons) decisions: to keep Liara alive through it all.

The problem is...... we already saw that, in ME1.  Those were good times........

Interesting. That's a male Shepard this time, isn't it? (If not, I mean no offense, but it does look a bit like it.)

I'd hate it, though, if in ME3 we're put into a position where we have to make a choice between saving Liara's life, or saving the lives of thousands of innocent civilians. My Paragon would save Liara every single time, of course, but why make it so damn dramatic for the hell of it? Is a happy ending not too much to ask for?!

However, a potential decision in which we either save Shepard's life, or the Commander sacrifices herself to save Liara would result in Liara living every single time. Without hesitation.

Yeah, but I mean confronting the Reapers head-on. At the forefront of a battle. Shepard and Liara possibly addressing Harbinger directly, and trying to reason with it. Something like that would be incredible ratz, I think.

I think I can see the Catch 22s in both of these, but the way I can rationalise it is this: Shepard is potentially walking into his/her final battle (providing he/she didn't die in ME2). Depending on whether you imported your save or not, there can be potential in variables that help decide the pentultimate choices that could save or destroy the galaxy.

I'm not saying Liara should be in the firing line, nor do I advocate for it, but having someone that mattered to Shepard involved in the storyline deeply could impact the overall experiance (once again, depending on whether you have gone through ME 1 and/or 2 and came out alive in both cases)

I'd only ever draw a male Shepard if I was being paid for it. You should all know that by now B)

To be fair, I can see where you're coming from - but that's intentional - Freya is meant to be built like a brick wall :D

To be honest, I can't see them making us choose between LI or Shepard. I think that would just annoy too many people to be a viable, unavoidable option.

I can see them making us choose between our LI and a large amount of other lives though.

This would be a game-ending situation for me, since my Shepard is doomed either way.  Kill the woman she loves, the person that matters most to her in the entire galaxy.  Or save her, and live with the guilt of all the people she scarificed.

Really would be quite the decision.

Still, I already know what Freya's choice would be...

Liara: All those lives, Shepard - all those people gone, just to save me?

Shepard: It was the the only choice I could ever make.

Knowing Liara's compassionate nature, wouldn't the guilt that Shepard had sacrificed thousands of people to save her life haunt her? Would she question that Shepard made the right choice?

I mean, in the debriefing after Virmire, look at how guilty either Ashley or Kaidan are that you saved their life. How much would that eat away at Liara?

Some clown with a poor attempt at a wind up. The usual and generic crap like posting off topic and offensive images. Nothing really creative at all.

Liara didn't approve at all.

Why does the Mass Effect wiki feel it necessary to have this picture of Liara representing the Mass Effect 2 section? I know alot of shots of her in ME2 aren't the greatest, but this is probably one of the least flattering pics of her ever. They should use that pic that's been posted in here before, the one of Liara with her eyes lowered and looking down sadly. I really like that one from ME2.

This was the picture I was referring to, just to let you know. One of the better pics of Liara in ME2, I think.
